[Other] Exact release date across all platforms

Spotify has exact release date information for albums - it can be viewed in the mobile app (at least under iOS, v8.5.41).

Using the official desktop app, however (macOS, v1.1.24.91.g4ca6d5eb) you only get the year.

Why the disparity? I would have thought that, if anything, the desktop app would contain more granular information, while the mobile app would contain more of a summary.

Year is not very granular at all - artists can do a lot in a year, and fans sometimes like to know at least the month they released something, if not also the day.

Thank you for reading

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that this feature is now available. All you need to do is hover over the song's release year: this will show you the full song's release date 🙂

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community!

If you hover over the release date in the new 2021 desktop app update or the web player for several seconds, the full release date will show in a popup tooltip. They should just show the full release date by default. The tooltip is slow and small.

Yes! I wish there was an easier way to find the release date of the current song playing. Sometimes I listen to a new playlist and discover a song and I'd like to see when the song was released.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but It would make sense if the song title, album name, and release date were displayed on the song credits across all platforms.

Totally agree, I think lots of people would really benefit from having the full release date of albums, as opposed to just the year.

I'm curious why this is marked as a "new idea" -- there's been a request for it every year since 2015.

This issue is even more confusing as accurate dates are implemented in certain sections of the desktop app (Linux, v1.1.10.546.ge08ef575) such as the 'Latest Release' section but the main album screen only shows the year... (shown in attached screenshots)

It would be great if the exact date was shown on every screen on every platform.DesktopDate.pngDesktopNoDate.png

This is literally the only thing why I still stick to Deezer. I really hope that this is going to be implemeted, or at least as an option in the settings.

Why is such an utterly basic piece of metadata not shown? After the title, artist and album, the release date is easily the most important piece of information you could possibly want.

The data obviously exists, because as af6geu88_-395 points out, it shows for "latest release" but NOWHERE ELSE. As it stands, I have no way of knowing whether a song/album was released last week or almost 12 months ago.

There are threads going back years requesting this and spotify simply says "not planned", wth?

Please make this data accessible. Even if it is not prominently shown. It would make my life, while digging through new music, so much easier.

I came from almost the same ideas requests from 2015 and one from 2018 - and this is still a topic in 2020.

While there has been a lot of discussion about the lack of specific dates on the desktop version for many years, I am surprised it has not blown up to the point that it is fixed already. It is common sense to include the specific date for releases, and it should have been there from the start and never left.

It makes things so much worse that the desktop version of Spotify has completely changed a couple of days ago (on my MacBook), and the release dates still aren't there. Aesthetics changed, icons changed, navigation changes, things were added, keybinds have changed, there are complete redesigns of pages, and there are still no specific dates. Come on, Spotify.

5 years on and this is still open... How long  can it take to add day+month to the year ? 🙄
