[Other] Exact release date across all platforms

Spotify has exact release date information for albums - it can be viewed in the mobile app (at least under iOS, v8.5.41).

Using the official desktop app, however (macOS, v1.1.24.91.g4ca6d5eb) you only get the year.

Why the disparity? I would have thought that, if anything, the desktop app would contain more granular information, while the mobile app would contain more of a summary.

Year is not very granular at all - artists can do a lot in a year, and fans sometimes like to know at least the month they released something, if not also the day.

Thank you for reading

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that this feature is now available. All you need to do is hover over the song's release year: this will show you the full song's release date 🙂

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community!

If you hover over the release date in the new 2021 desktop app update or the web player for several seconds, the full release date will show in a popup tooltip. They should just show the full release date by default. The tooltip is slow and small.

Spotify please develop this feature. It would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a paid subscriber, finally trying to make Spotify work after years of Google Play Music, and I'm about ready to quit and go back to Youtube. I can't see release date of what's playing without jumping into an album, and that's incredibly important meta info.

Please add the precise release date on all platforms. I'm part of a music club where we share music released within the last year and this is impossible without the exact release date. It's absurd to have to go to my phone from desktop to figure out the precise release date. The information is clearly in the database.

I love that we have to vote as customers for stuff we want while Spotify feels free to tell us that some groups songs that are 30 and 40 years old got updated at 2:45PM that day.

When did anyone ask for that absolutely stupid and useless information?

Customer is always right except at Spotify, where we are just annoying people asking for common knowledge to be put up there. How Anti-customer centric

I decided to reply here again after seeing multiple people agree and witnessing something absolutely absurd a couple of days ago. While making a playlist in chronological order (by release date, as many of my playlists are), I was using Spotify on my desktop to arrange songs while using Spotify on my phone to check the release dates (that should not be necessary). I often use the internet instead of Spotify on my phone, and I have even had to make a spreadsheet for release dates to add several songs into one of my playlists. Anyway, while using the mobile and desktop versions of Spotify simultaneously to make a playlist in chronological order, I noticed that for at least one song, the date (as in the year, since that is all the desktop version has) was DIFFERENT on my phone compared to my laptop. So not only does Spotify not have exact release dates on the desktop app, but the release YEAR could be different. This is just salt on the wound, and it is unacceptable, especially since we pay for this service.

Thank you for bringing your feedback to the Spotify Community!

Your suggestion didn’t quite reach 180 votes in 6 months. Users can still vote on this idea - if it gets enough votes, Spotify will still check it out and post a status update. You can read more about the idea process here.

When you view an album in the mobile app, you see the release date at the bottom. Not just the year, but the month and day as well.

In the desktop app, even after the March 2021 update, you can only see the year.

For parity between the two apps, the desktop app should show the full date including month and day. Since desktop and web now use pretty much the same layout, this could be implemented for web as well.

The full date is very useful information to me and currently I have to check my phone or use the API to get it.

My main use case is making monthly playlists of new releases, but this is valuable for historical things as well -- a lot can change in a year.

It's not important to me how the date is displayed, just that I can see it somewhere on all platforms.

It would of course also be lovely to have the date visible in a playlist column, but that's a feature request. This is a bug.

As release date seems to be replaced with "latest release" on the artist page it would be very much appreciated to have this on the album page (for all album / singles if present)!
