[Playlists] Limit Editing Access in Collaborative Playlists

This problem has already been addressed in other ideas quite a few times, so I'll make it brief. At the moment, anyone can edit a collaborative playlist. There are numerous ways to solve this, e.g. granting the creator the right to put people on blacklists or whitelists. Another easy fix that might be a separate link for the creator to share only with persons who shoud be able to add and delete song! It would already help a lot 🙂

Hey everyone!

We're happy to announce that you will soon have new options for managing collaborative playlists - they are rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks.

Users will have the ability to review who currently has access to individual playlists, share collaborative playlists with large public groups, or keep them small and private for that special tightly-knit group of friends.

You will be able to:
  • Pick your favorites. As a playlist creator, you can now invite or remove users from collaborating on your playlists, meaning there’s more control over who has access to editing the content you love.
  • Share privately. You can now set your collaborative playlists to private, so no one can view, search, listen to or share a playlist– except for those chosen few who have been invited or given collaborative access.
  • Change your mind? At any given time, a playlist owner has the power to see, add and remove who gets to collaborate and follow their playlists.
For details on how the feature works, see:

Because of this change, this other idea is also being implemented.

If you don't see this yet, don't worry. Just make sure to keep your app up to date and it should be available for you soon.

I'm now getting what I suspect are bots adding songs to collaborative playlists I have with friends. I'm really looking forward to the implementation of this. I also have rather large collaborative playlists I would love to share with friends, but do not want random people adding to.

I really hope this feature is live soon.

File this one under 'This is how it should have worked from the very beginning.'

I've had to make my collaborative playlists non-collaborative, because people that I don't know were adding songs. It's some of the same people, with a couple different people that added mostly the same junk to a few of my playlists. We need a locking feature, too, so the playlist can't be messed with, once it has been completed.

The idea for a link that works for only who you share it with is the same as Google Drive had, which I had put in my idea about collaborative playlists.

With this idea, no collaborative playlist should allow others to add songs to it, unless you change a setting, like "Make Publicly Collaborative". If random people finds your playlist, through searching or seeing it on friend activity, then they could mess with it, otherwise.

It's weird how this isn't considered a duplicate, and closed, seeing how I and others have the same idea already submitted.

Any update on this Spotify!!! I don't want to allow everyone with link to remove songs from collaboration playlists

I've discussed it with a man from Spotify and I'm sorry that he sees this serious problem so lightly 😞:

Recently I've handled an idea requesting more control over the collaborative playlists by their owners and I can ensure the right teams are aware of this suggestion. Actually, just to be clear, there is no bug affecting the system of Collaborative Playlists and they are working properly as they were created. However, users are suggesting changes for the system and it's being handled normally through the Ideas Process.

Like so many other users have said, it's pretty baffling that this isn't already a feature. I've had so many bots (or trolls?) mess up my collaborative playlists that I had to make them all private, which sucks because it was a lot of fun to create them with friends. Please add a permissions feature to collaborative playlists!

I agree that a "permission to edit needed" feature should be added to collaborative playlists ASAP. I have had collaborative playlists for years and bots and spammers haven't really been an issue until recently, but now that they are, it is definitely a concern that they might ruin our carefully curated playlists.

Pesukone is spamming my playlists as well. Please fix. This is a very basic feature and currently makes Spotify collaboration unusable.
