[Playlists] Limit Editing Access in Collaborative Playlists

This problem has already been addressed in other ideas quite a few times, so I'll make it brief. At the moment, anyone can edit a collaborative playlist. There are numerous ways to solve this, e.g. granting the creator the right to put people on blacklists or whitelists. Another easy fix that might be a separate link for the creator to share only with persons who shoud be able to add and delete song! It would already help a lot 🙂

Hey everyone!

We're happy to announce that you will soon have new options for managing collaborative playlists - they are rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks.

Users will have the ability to review who currently has access to individual playlists, share collaborative playlists with large public groups, or keep them small and private for that special tightly-knit group of friends.

You will be able to:
  • Pick your favorites. As a playlist creator, you can now invite or remove users from collaborating on your playlists, meaning there’s more control over who has access to editing the content you love.
  • Share privately. You can now set your collaborative playlists to private, so no one can view, search, listen to or share a playlist– except for those chosen few who have been invited or given collaborative access.
  • Change your mind? At any given time, a playlist owner has the power to see, add and remove who gets to collaborate and follow their playlists.
For details on how the feature works, see:

Because of this change, this other idea is also being implemented.

If you don't see this yet, don't worry. Just make sure to keep your app up to date and it should be available for you soon.

I'm having this issue, every now and then there is a random user adding songs to my playlist!

I wish I had more control of who have the permission to add more songs. I think it's pretty basic and very strange that this is not the default since the beginning .

(note: that ava user is not someone I know)

Yes we have the exact same set of songs added as in you case @mdlm, but by someone else:

So I think it's a bot doing.

please do something about the "Pesukone" issue; it completely ruins the experience of having a collaborative playlist. i like the idea of making collab playlists invite-only and/or banning "Pesukone" from the platform entirely if completely changing the collaborative playlists is too difficult.

Don't worry about moaning ioim1985. We pay the monthly subscription fee for a product that works.

I just found out there are bots that go around looking for Collaborative playlists and then dump a whole heap of tracks into open playlists.

Social media has been around for 20 years and some of the basics have been ignored by one of the largest companies.

Let's consolidate our votes to one suggestion entry to increase its visibility. This currently has the most votes.

Edit: Looks like this one is now the winner!

Agreed, this is getting ridiculous. Every single day a bot destroys my collaborative playlist.

  • I'm having this issue with pesukone bots too and the fact that spotify not only doesn't have 2 factor but also doesn't have editing permissions is a huge red flag. Definitely looking at switching away from spotify ASAP, I have big collaborative playlists and I'm so sick of them being modified by bots

I have the same issue. I have collaborative playlist with my friends which have also Spotify Premium but now I found that somebody which we don't know adding random music to our playlist. Why is this possible? Why it's not possible to make a collaborative playlist only with people which I follow? It's not hard to implement this feature. I saw that a lot of people have a similar problem but there are no solution.

I am adding a photo where some "girl" adding and adding some random music into our playlist. wth why and why Spotify doesn't make some security steps? We have a Spotify Premium for a lot of years and this is a big problem for us.

After a few days another bot spammed my playlist again:

Please fix this problem ASAP. Or a lot of Premium users will go to other platform because of this issue.

Thank you.

Having a more robust playlist permissions/sharing system in place could pave the way for one of my other suggestions.

I really encourage people to take a look and give it a vote.

Hi all, same problem here, some random strangers edit my and my GF collab playlists. This is BIG issue, we are afraid about loosing our precious playlist cause of bots =(
