Shuffle should not repeat a song until X% of the the rest of the playlist has been played

My starred playlist is 250+ tracks, yet when I shuffle play I hear some song all of the time and others never. Spotify should keep track of the play history across sessions. Once a song has been played, it won'tbe put back into the sample pool until half (or some other percentage) of the other songs are played.

Example: Playlist X has 100 songs. When on shuffle, as soon as song Y is played it is put "on hold" and won't be considered for play until at least 50 other songs have been played.

I get sick of hearing the same songs over and over and this is easily a fixable problem. I would also hope that this is a duplicate suggestion, but I didn't see anything.

Hey everyone! Recently we updated this idea: "Implement an actual shuffle function"

With this new algorithm you should see songs played in shuffle move to the bottom of the play queue between sessions. We'd like to collect feedback on this algorithm so if you have any comments please post them here. Thanks for your feedback everyone!

The algorithm is not working great, in that I still ofter hear the same songs frequently while others are rarer. There should be a balance, and maybe leave it to users control if they would like to hear the same songs with increased or decreased frequency. I personally prefer hearing things I haven't heard in a long time.

I only joined Spotify because I read it was highly rated and I was experiencing some bluetooth connection issues using Napster. But I must say that Napster has a larger library because there are songs in Spotify that I can't find, and their interface offers so many more features including an equalizer. But my biggest complaint with Spotify is SHUFFLE. I have about 200-300 songs. It plays the same songs over and over. Does anyone have any recommendation for fixing this? It's really annoying, esp. when you give a party and the same songs are repeating.

We’ve all been saying this for YEARS! I have emailed Spotify Help a dozen
times with no response

I am so annoyed with the supposed “ shuffle” function that continually repeats songs I have just heard! If I wanted to listen to standard play lists, I would listen to the radio. My fave playlist has over 500 songs and I rarely hear more than a small percentage of it. Has Spotify addressed this yet, I saw numerous comments on this issue!?

They say the algorithm has been updated, but I am still hearing the same songs too frequently while not hearing others frequently enough. I have over 3,600 liked songs, and the shuffle is not great. Really ruining the experience. I would like to see a newer update about this issue...

Commenting from 2021.
Shuffle algorithm still sucks.
I have 2400+ songs on my list. And I am now listening for songs I've listened two days ago in the same order they came then.
And there are songs I have not being seeng for months or longer.
I expect shuffle to be truly random. When I am shuffling the playlist I expect the shuffle to cover whole playlist, 5% of it to be repeated over and over again.
If true random is too hard to implement, sort the songs by last access date and pick something that has not being played for long time.

I am sorry if I am beating a dead horse here.  I have a 43 hours of music on my main Spotify playlist which is on shuffle through the Spotify app on my iPhone.  I hear the same songs everday or every other day.  I would of though that Spotify would go through all 43 hours of music before it decided to repeat?  Any input/suggestions would be helpful.

Thank You.

2014 issue and it's 2022 now...

I don't know what messes up the shuffle (some update usually does it) but it is very annoying.

I listen offline to/from work and even watch a video when I got the time on public transit and every time I go back to listening to my playlist it just reverses the order it was playing before.

I have to hit shuffle a few times before it even shows a song I haven't heard in a while but even then that doesn't last long before it starts playing the same songs.

Winamp and probably many other players had shuffle and playcounts sorted 25 years ago and Spotify can't get their **bleep** together to save their life! Such an annoying frustration!
