Volume normalization for mobile devices.

It sucks to have my ears blown out when I'm in the middle of riding my bike...

Updated on 2017-11-10

Hey folks, you should all see an "Enable Audio Normalization" option under your Playback settings in the Android and iOS Spotify apps. Thanks for giving us your feedback here!

Spotify, fix that! It's especially bad when you listen to classical music and then a commercial kicks in and blows out your eardrums. Just fix it already!!

I can't believe that its not something that is standard on the spotify app for mobile devices.  We set up spotify to play in our bar, but the volume differences are sometimes so bad that we may end up cancelling our premium subscription.  Pity as I was going to set it up for a few others friends too.

I would like to see a normalization as well.  This is a feature that is keeping me from committing my music transition to Spotify.  I could see this as a premium feature.  Free users get just the dynamic range compression and Premium users get an option for a less destructive and more natural method similar to ReplayRain or the EBU recommendation R128.  No audio modification, just gain adjustment for the entire track or album.

I bought an iPod Touch and a Spotify Premium subscription to use in my business and was unaware that of the non-volume-normalization issue. It's actually a pretty big issue and is frustrating to say the least.

Same here,

Just invested in a sonos speaker, wich forced me to the premium spotify account. no problem, only to find out that playback is mostly impossible due to lack off normalisation!

Please introduce quicly, technology is already known, see windows version off the app.

I recently switched my phone from a Droid X to an iPhone 5s.  One difference I've noticed in Spotify is that songs between different albums are not normalized for volume in the iPhone 5s.  Some songs are extremely loud and some are very quiet.  Many months ago that was a problem also on the Droid X, but at some point they managed to fix it and songs were all at roughly the same volume.  There was no selector switch for this effect as there is in the computer desktop version of Spotify.  It was just automatically normalized.  I would really like to see this effect in the iOS.

I voted for this.

I don't listen to music on the move, but I feel it for the people that do (due to poor volume normalization).

I created this idea regarding improvements to the volume normalization algorithm in the Desktop version. As it stands, the current volume normalization method doesn't take into account the subtle volume differences between each song on an album.

I wish more of these ideas were grouped by spotify because we'd double the kudos. E.g. better volume normalization should also apply to mobiles. Is volume normalization missing from android, ios and windows phone, or is just missing from one of the mobile operating systems ?

agreed 100000% volume normalisation on iPhone should not be a luxury ... ITS ESSENTIAL ! deleted all our yoga music now and just using it for radio 😞

I think it ruins the whole spotify experience not having voice normalisation on iPhone 😞

Agree mobil volume normalization is a critical and fundemental feature.  It needs to cover local songs in the playlist, too (local songs should be played back at the same volume as Spotify-sourced songs).  It's so bad, I'm thinking of resurrecting iTunes for my iPhone.
