Volume normalization for mobile devices.

It sucks to have my ears blown out when I'm in the middle of riding my bike...

Updated on 2017-11-10

Hey folks, you should all see an "Enable Audio Normalization" option under your Playback settings in the Android and iOS Spotify apps. Thanks for giving us your feedback here!

Adding my bump/vote for normalizing.

As a former career radio guy, compression/normalization is a ritical need if streaming services are truly to be the "next radio".

I love almost everything about Spotify but this needs a solution.

(I realize proper compression takes some horespower - not sure if the iOS mobile engine is an issue.)

Pretty please?

Thanks

This idea has over 100 kudos. Wondering why it hasn't changed status from New Idea?

It is a desperately needed feature, especially with new devices like the Gramofon about with the idea of social music/playlists.

Not very social to change the volume every song.

This idea has been proposed on 2012 ... and today it is still not implemented? 😐

I agree that is very annoying!

Yup, greatly alters my decision to use spotify. Fix it

Wow, just wow!! I am a new subscriber and the VERY FIRST thing I noticed about Spotify was the volume issue on an iPad. So I came to the forums to find a solution and what do I find??? This issue has existed since 2012??? Really Spotify??? What a joke and embarrassment for a global "pro" company! I certainly will un-subscribe after only my first month of premium. Normally I would be much more diplomatic, understanding, and forgiving in this type of scenario... But after nearly three years??? I say bash Spotify all you want as it is completely deserved and justified! Premium sub my butt!!! LOL!!! My ears are more precious to me than to have a negligent company damage them!

Status changed to: Not Right Now

Hey everyone! Thanks for your kudos and feedback here.

We think this is a great idea, but for now we need to mark this as "Not Right Now". Of course we'll keep passing on your feedback and kudos here at Spotify HQ. As soon as we have an update on this we'll post here.

What a disappointment.  We got Spotify premium to play music from an iPod over the stereo at work and the volume changes are a problem.   Looks like this has been going on for a while with no  action from Spotify.  Please fix it.

I know that my $9.99/mth doesn't mean s**t to such a large company, but this has been a requested feature for two years now. To boot, it was a feature in the past on iOS desktop and mobile devices. There are many other options out there including just buying it on my own and using normalizers that are available through the play store. I have been given no reasons at to stay w/spotify. $120/year means nothing to a large company. I loved spotify, but for music that uses crescendos and decrescendos, the app is pointless. The app should be written for all genres and if the genre is not supported properly, the genre should not be available.

Some day in the future, once this feature is available I might consider coming back, but that will be hard to do since I will have found another software to use that fulfills all my needs.

If there isn't going to be a solution to normalizing the sound levels of the songs on my ipod/mobile devices there is no reason to pay for a Spotify account and I would not reccomend Spotify to anyone else either.  It is a BASIC expectation to have the levels of the songs to be the same.

It seems some audiophiles are worried about normalization ruining the carefully engineered mixes of songs. I think with older recordings there is plenty of headroom to raise the volume without squashing the mix.

Please re-implement this feature. Hopefully Spotify's response of "we'll keep passing on your kudos and feedback" means they're passing the feedback on; and not simply "passing" on the whole idea.
