Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

Update 2015-03-17

Hello everyone. Spotify here. With the latest release of the Desktop app, this feature is now available across Desktop, iOS and Android. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy!

i dont have the time to read through this, but, i remember other programs always having a down arrow for the songs you already have.

i like the solution in the first post(2008), i was hoping you could use both. if people really want the same song in 2 playlists they could.

honestly i dont want any dupilcate songs at all.

It's great you're working on the ideal solution, but just a simple right click menu option to 'remove duplicates' would work in the meantime, so you could just drag in T load of tunes then clear out the duplicates in one click.

This is an absolute must. So annoying it is not already implemented

okay....it's been 5 years since requested...and 5 months since labeled as "under consideration..." come on! i'm a paying member!

I only started using Spotify and paid subscription starts soon. If this is the speed in which a feature is handled after it has been set to "under consideration" what does it say about the reliability of the company to respond to the customer?

To be fair I have not read through all 16 pages (just to much) and don't know if a spotify moderator has replied in the meantime with an update or not.

Maybe moderator responses could be placed top-most in the threat?

Anyway I will pay for the app for now but keep an eye on this thread and hope I don't get any issues.

Please bring back the Total Time in the Playlists...

My use case for this is, for example, I'm listening to a Spotify radio station and hear a great metal song, I want to add it to my "Metal" playlist. If I forget it is in there, I end up adding the same song over and over, which is crazy. Either a method of actually preventing this per playlist, or simply an indicator next to the playlist that the song is already in there would be perfect. Thanks!

This is my biggest complaint with Spotify! iTunes has had this feature for years. In iTunes, I can select many songs and then drag them into a playlist. If there are any duplicates it will create a pop up that says something like "There are one or more duplicates being transferred...Would like to include this duplicate song or skip it?" Then I can choose "skip" or Skip all" Works great!

How foobar handles this would be imo the easiest way. There is an option to remove all the duplicates of any playlist. Edit->remove duplicates->yes. Would work wonders.

Hi, I'm new to Spotify and the first thing I get annoyed is this issue.

Spotify: please fix it!! As I see, people started to tell you 5 years ago about this issue...

It seems to me that you don't hear enough the voice of your customers?

GIVE US AN UPDATE BY WHEN you are going to fix it.
