Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

Update 2015-03-17

Hello everyone. Spotify here. With the latest release of the Desktop app, this feature is now available across Desktop, iOS and Android. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy!

I don't really see why this is still "Under Consideration".... This is obviously a feature that many would appreciate, and I can't imagine it being that difficult to implement.

A simple setting within preferences letting you "Avoid duplicates (within a playlist)" would make the problem disappear.

And as yoann said "This has been requested back in 2008 and is still not implemented!".........

So get your **bleep** together, and make it happen!

Please hurry up with this!

I don't like this idea, Well it could be an option, But nothing that goes for everyone, I like to add many of the same track into my playlists if it's a song i can't get enough of, Altho i want to hear something else sometimes, Can look something like this "That good song"-"Another song"-"That good song"-"That good song"-"Another song"- & so on. So yeah, There could be an option to turn that on so that ya don't get duplicated tracks in a playlist, So that those like me won't have to make say 50 playlists of the same type just to add 2 dif songs to a playlist becouse we want to hear stuff in the way i described.

Spotify Unlimited user scince about 2 years.

Today I suddenly had lots of duplicates in a couple of my 100+ playlists, containing 100+ songs. Sometimes there were just two copies and sometimes there where more, mostly two. Started to look around the web for a way to remove the duplicates.

I found this looooong forum thread and did not really think I could see a solution so I started thinking for my own instead, hmm, been using Spotify for several years and never once ran into any problems and suddenly now many duplicates, I exited Spotify, restarted the Windows7 computer and tried to start Spotify but the app would'nt start!!!

SOLUTION

What I did then was to erase (moved to another directory), with Spotify-app turned off/exited of course,  all of the .BNK-files (one for each playlist) in the folder %appdata%\Roaming\Spotify\user-id\ and voilá! Spotify started and in a minute had rebuilt all of the playlists and the duplicates was gone!!

So, it was the local cache that had gone berserk. Maybe that might be the cause also for others than me.

Hope this has helped someone! Good Night!

Also, while you are at the prevent duplicates. Make it an option or preference for the Radio to not repeat songs (only once every 100, 1000, or 10,000 songs-all you need is a log file with the name of the song, artist and year of the song/album then parse the file before choosing the next song-if there is no match, play the song then add it to the list. If there is a match, select a different song and parse again until there is no match-just make sure to test this and see how big the log file will be at the 100, 1000, and 10,000 increments then give a warning at how big of space is needed). I want to listen to the radio for new music and it does not take long to recognize that I have heard this song and the next song and the following song...

Another idea to flow with this is to have a button for "I have heard this song, try something new." It is really hard to share this with other people when they recognize that Spotify repeats itself.. Been also trying to get those people off of buying CDs of music and just use Spotify.

Hey guys! I actually had this same problem. I just figured it out though. If you want you can take a look at ISWiki.net. That's where I found my answer. Let me know if it works.

I would really like it if there was a way of applying a comment to tracks in a certain playlist. Some playlists I make have a purpose - i.e. there is something about a song I loved or something about a song I thought was a good idea but after the playlist fills up I forget which songs had what special part - it could be something really small like 'chord change at 2:45' or something.

It could look just like the messages applied to inbox tracks, y'know?

I think it could be useful for other purposes too, hope some of you agree. Cheers!
