[All Devices] Bring back queue refreshing after selecting a song

Hello!

I think it's a good idea to bring back the feature that when you select a new song the queue would automatically refresh, that was pretty useful! I will leave two videos at the end of this post to show how it was before and how it is now.

At first, I thought it was just a bug, so I posted about this on Spotify community before and I was guided by a Moderator to try using the Ideas Board to bring the "feature" back. You can access the post through this link.

I can state four reasons for that to come back:

  • First, the algorithm related to make a consistent and random queue, loses it's sense since the queue will not refresh after selecting one song that would generate a "fitting" queue acordlying;

  • Second, that is a major flaw in usability;

  • Third, Spotify app on Windows (I don't know about the other OSs) does not have the an oficial option to turn off permanentally the Smart Shuffle and the easiest way to refresh the queue would just be selecting another song;

  • Fourth, I have used Spotify in a lot of different computers with diferent specifications and the fact that we'll have to possibly pass through the Smart Shuffle as we manually refresh the queue, turning on and off the Shuffle is not good at all considering that the app may crash or have a poor performance in low budget computers.

I don't know when this feature will be fully removed since it seems that just some accounts were affected by this new update. I really think this is a vital feature for the app.

How it was before: https://youtu.be/cjRjX0kY6PA

How it is now: https://youtu.be/xnBTTKg4_tE

I appreciate any response.

My best regards,

08/14/2025 Update: It seems that more and more people are missing the "feature" since a lot more people commented and liked both this idea and my post in Spotify's community. That makes me believe that more accounts were included in the test field, thus, more people are complaing about it.

Edit 1: English improvement, minor corrections (english hard lol) and update added.

Hello!

I posted about this on spotify community before and I was guided try using the Ideas Board. I don't know when this feature will be fully removed since it seems that just some accounts were affected by this new update, but please don't do this. I really think this is somewhat a vital feature for power users.

I second this

Thank you so much for this post!! I really thought that I was going insane and that it was just me.

I really hope they change it back. 🤞 Or make it at least an option that you can toggle on or off.

this 'feature' has become more frustrating, I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this. for me i get it to refresh, but as soon as i go out of the app it basically reverts to the queue it was before refreshing.

A while back, Spotify changed how playlists work. When you manually select a new song, it now keeps the original queue instead of reshuffling the whole playlist (excluding intentionally queued songs), which used to be a quick way to refresh the order. Now, if you want to reshuffle, you have to cycle through shuffle modes or switch playlists entirely, which interrupts the listening experience and is far less convenient. It would be great if Spotify brought back the old behavior as a toggleable setting, giving users the choice between keeping the queue as-is or reshuffling the playlist whenever they pick a new song.

It's so annoying. I don't understand why they just didn't make a different shuffle mode like 'Static Shuffle' if you wanted to keep the current shuffle but play a new song. Now I have to do multiple new clicks to reshuffle because I don't like the current lineup instead of hitting a new song.

Yes please ffs, The queue should change if i select a new song

NeoSahadeo

The queue revision system is not good.

When I click on another song in my playlist the expected behaviour is that the queue is reshuffled.

What is the point of even including the option to shuffle songs if the queue revision system blocks this.

Please remove it, its -> https://gew1-spclient.spotify.com/connect-state/v1/player/command/from/[PLAYER_ID]

with a body

  "command": {
    "endpoint": "set_queue"
  }

This update has easily been the most frustrating update and brought me very close to switching platforms entirely. I really hope they revert it.

IKRR??? why doesn't it reshuffle when i click on unshuffle and shuffle again?? i always did that to reshuffle the playlist, but now it's FCKING USELESS!!!!!!
