[All Platforms] Light Mode option

Hi,

The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state.

Hey folks,

This idea has been moved to a wrong place in the forum but is now back in its place.

We're keeping the status of Not Right Now as we still don't have any immediate plans to implement this, however, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status if we have any news to share.

Thanks!

This is such an easy feature to implement, I'm a little surprised they're not taking it seriously.

I also want a white theme. It's like I've the night theme on. White is also modern and restful.

what i learned meanwhile: this company (ignoring user at all) will never solve. So i do not think that it makes sense to post and poat and post same again.

What we need is a selfmade hack ! (patch) - Does anybody have an idea how to patch the files, changing the background by ourself ??? if there s any developer with ideas, let us know !!

I am paying for Spotify family. My wife is paying for Apple music. I have been trying to persuade her to come over to Spotify, but she won't because she finds the black background and white text hard on her eyes. I can see this has been an issue for years and surely one of the simplest to resolve. I develop software myself. I can produce software with the option of light and dark modes (and many others) with minimal effort. If I can do it so easily I am sure Spotify can too! But why don't they.

I am not prepared to pay for two services. If my wife CANT come over to Spotify then I will have to move over to Apple. That will be another subscription lost to Spotify due to their ridiculous habit of p***ing off their fee paying customers by not listening to them.

I really, really do not want to give more money to another massive American conglomerate. I am from the UK and we may be Brexiting, but  I still want to support our European neighbours. Unfortunately, this particular European neighbour continues to make it difficult to do.

And we wonder why piracy is a thing...

@lewis144

Unfortunately, I do not follow your drift. What are you suggesting?

I've been watching this thread for maybe 5 years (and suffering with the
lame UI). Also one with software development in my background, I agree the
fix would be easy. I suspect that Spotify's churlish refusal to fix it
comes from one of two reasons: 1) a clueless executive came up with the UI
and stubbornly believes he is right, or 2) a clueless executive's wife or
tootsie fancies herself a designer and came up with this terrible UI.
Either way, the right answer would be to provide an option. Go ahead, keep
the bad UI as a default! I'm sure NO ONE would change to a light mode
option.

@dougherj. Sadly user options is a concept that Spotify's developers/designers do not  seem to grasp.

It always seems to be an all or nothing option.

If you vote for a change to the way something works and there are enough votes they make the change and abandon all previous code. It's just complete madness.

I actually quite like dark mode. But then I don't have a problem reading it. Many people do. Why on earth would you want to force (I suspect a large number of actual and potential) customers to other providers rather than provide a simple new option? In fact, reading this thread it is not even a new option. It is how Spotify used to look But they did what they usually do and changed and simply jetisoned the old code!

This thread has already had well over 3,000 voters from Spotify users. How many of those have Spotify lost? But surely, much more scary for Spotify is the number of people (such as my wife) who took one look at it and then uninstalled it and went to Apple, Pandora etc. It simply won't know because they won't bother telling Spotify why they thought Spotify wasn't for them.

Spotify's problem is its success. It doubtless thinks it is unassailable. Other European ventures that mistakenly thought they were unsinkable include the Titanic and, somewhat closer to home, Nokia. The impact of the global recession will be enormous on people's ability to maintain luxury expenditure such as music streaming. Spotify may be top of the tree now, but it is competing against the likes of Apple and Amazon, with financial resources that completely dwarf its own.  Spotify should be very afraid at this time. But most of all it should be listening to its loyal customers, many of whom have stuck with them through ridiculous and ill-thought out changes to their offering. I really don't want to give my money to Apply or Pandora. I would like to see Spotify remain at the top of the tree. However, if Spotify doesn't give a damn about my wife's eyesight, why should I give a damn about it and fork out for two music streaming services every month when I'm sure Apple will serve me just as well?

Screwyou

Make the **bleep**ing light theme already!

It is amazing to me that this is still not resolved.  I have gone to Google Music since Spotify refused to listen to it's users.  This was not a difficult ask and it's clear that they don't listen or care about their subscribers or those who may have sight problems.  Very disappointed to see after all this time that nothing changed.  Shame on you, Spotify!
