[All Platforms] Light Mode option

Hi,

The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state.

Hey folks,

This idea has been moved to a wrong place in the forum but is now back in its place.

We're keeping the status of Not Right Now as we still don't have any immediate plans to implement this, however, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status if we have any news to share.

Thanks!

Requesting light mode as well for accessibility reasons. As someone with astigmatism, I can't use dark GUI. I get ghosting, halation, and a nasty headache from just minutes of use. And surely I'm not the only one.

The "Not Right Now" status is disappointing. I've paid for Premium numerous times and heard your incessant Premium ads for years now, yet your apps still lack such a basic feature. Suggests indifference towards users like me. Pls. prioritize this. For now, I have to keep modding your desktop app to get a more usable GUI. My current phone lacks a smart color invert feature or the like, so I can't use your mobile app for now. Edit: I'm considering switching to a different service for good unless you introduce an official light theme. I'm getting weary of modding your desktop app after every update. And hearing your incessant ads is getting more irritating, to be honest.

It would be cool if the users could choose which theme (bright or dark) they would likento use. I prefer the bright one, so I would definitely love that. Thank you if you care about my suggestion.

As a lifetime Apple Music user that has finally switched over to Spotify, this is going to be a dealbreaker for me and the family plan I was intending to get after the 2 month free trial. If this issue isn't addressed by the end of my free trial in September, I will be going back to Apple Music. This black theme is a product differentiator that might have been positive in y'all's company's early years, but is blatantly ignoring general accessibility requirements and event requests from customers. I do not have any visual accessibility requirements, yet it is still a deal breaker for me. If your upper management still defends the dark theme as a differentiator, then fair enough, but for every person that has voted here and left a comment, I guarantee you there are 10x the amount of people that didn't bother and canceled the subscription. Sounds like a corporate problem that y'all really should prioritize, especially since it is revenue based. "Not Right Now" sounds like you did evaluate if it was worth the switch and losing your differentiator, but I would seriously reconsider your evaluation. I also own some shares in Spotify, and if your corporate team will defend this design, I'll be parting ways there too. Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about...

It is the middle of 2024. This thread is over 10 years old now. Light theme? "not right now" says spotify

I've got some good news for anyone using macOS and are happy to use Spotify in a web browser, if you use Arc Browser (Based on Google Chrome), it's really easy to create a 'boost' to turn Spotify into light mode, and it looks *really* good. I believe the feature will be coming to Windows builds of the browser soon, though there's no ETA from what I can gather.

Come on Spotify, please implement this, it really does look awesome and looking at the popularity of this thread, you're bound to get new subscribers (myself included).Screenshot 2024-07-18 at 19.29.34.png

Edit: For anyone wondering what the weird black box is over the top of 'Daily Mix 5', apologies that was me attempting to black out my personal information. Only just realised I left that there.

With so many other sites and apps these days having multiple options, Spotify being one of the big ones that doesn't is a really bad look. With the price increase, I'm more and more tempted every day to just... get my music elsewhere than keep paying for a service that hurts to look at - figuratively and physically.

This only available in white on black is some ableist**bleep**, spotify 😐

As someone with disabilities incl. astigmatism, I don't like throwing the word "ableist" around. There are understandable reasons why ppl would behave in ways that some may consider "ableist", ignorance being a common one.

But at this point, when a long-running service like Spotify lack such an accessibility option even after users requested it for 10+ years and their best response is "not right now", while even the likes of Discord (which is known to poke fun at light mode users) have this option, yeah, I can't blame y'all for calling this ableist. At best, I'd consider this grossly inconsiderate.

My premium subscription is ending this November. I only took it cos it's a three-month sub and I've found a way to block automatic updates so they won't keep overwriting the light GUI mod that makes the desktop app usable for me (making me waste time to put it back on). But I won't be renewing my subscription, unless Spotify implements this long-requested feature.
