[All Platforms] Light Mode option

Hi,

The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state.

Hey folks,

This idea has been moved to a wrong place in the forum but is now back in its place.

We're keeping the status of Not Right Now as we still don't have any immediate plans to implement this, however, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status if we have any news to share.

Thanks!

Hello, I encountered a problem with the brightness of the application, in a bright environment, even with the maximum brightness of the device, it is sometimes difficult to navigate the application, I would like to be able to change the color theme of the application from dark to white and vice versa, in the settings as such there is no function

Sad to see that this is still not implemented
Dark mode gives me headache.

I also can't upvote main request.

Why can't I vote for this? (The rejection status?)

I’d love to suggest the addition of a Light Mode option for the Spotify user interface.

While the dark theme looks sleek and modern, having a toggle for Light Mode—especially for daytime use or in brightly lit environments—would greatly improve visual comfort for many users. This could also help reduce eye strain, particularly on desktop and larger screens where dark UI elements can sometimes make content harder to see in well-lit spaces.

Offering both Dark and Light modes would give users more personalization and bring Spotify in line with other major platforms that support theme options based on user preference or system settings.

This has been up from 2016 and still not implemented...

The Spotify app is currently in a permanent dark mode. I just wanted to suggest a light mode option for those with visual issues such as eye strains (like myself) and even just for aesthetics. I feel the app would have more appeal if there were an option to switch between light/dark mode appearance.

Interesting that it is hard to do for spotify, while 3rd party apps, that i guess just edit some config file to change colors make this possible with few clicks right now.

Weirdly, this issue is plaguing all other platforms - tidal and youtube music have same issue. But standalone players for local or network self hosted files can usually do light mode.

I know it might be part of Spotify’s “aesthetic” to have the app entirely black, but this is also the aesthetic of most music apps—nothing innovative.

I keep wondering how such big and wealthy companies can’t manage to add such a basic feature like a light theme to their apps. Not everyone jumped on the dark theme trend, you know?

We're in 2025 and Spotify is still stuck in the past. Please implement a light mode!

I used Apple Music for a year and I have to say that I could see everything more easily. I 100% prefer it and now after I came back to Spotify, I want to beg you to make a light mode and generally update Spotify’s design because it feels amazingly cluttered and dated.
