[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your continued engagement and valuable feedback on this idea.

I'm afraid there hasn't been any change on the status of this idea since our last update. However, we've been reading all your comments and feedback which have been incredibly insightful.

We’ll keep you folks posted as soon as we have any new info to share.

Hi guys, it felt so good to discover that conversation and doesn't feel alone with this anymore. Anyway, after reading some of your coments i guess i will follow the easiest solution witch is leave the platform... this is really sad considering how that real shuffle request seams to be reasonable legitimate and doable.

All the best for your (not shuffled) music life !

If someone told you they owned the biggest and most beloved chain of pizza restaurants, but none of their restaurants knew how to make a simple salami pizza, you'd find that weird, right? Well, here's Spotify, telling us we can "shuffle" by giving us a button that literally says so. But oh wait, it's not actually a shuffle, it's just another playlist they created for you with their oh-so-powerful algorithm. You don't need to know that though, they just do it on the down-low in the background because the simple truth is: Spotify knows better than you what you actually want when you click a button that says "shuffle" on it, you silly little user.

How this is still not changed after years of people complaining shows these guys either don't know how to do it or they don't give a **bleep** since like I said, they think they know better than us what shuffle means.

That's some amateur-level stuff there, Spotify, get it together.

Or you'd just go to a different Pizza restaurant...

The easy fix to this is to change provider

Please fix the shuffle, it's so annoying, the shuffle is exactly the same everytime a launch it and the same song come back 3-4 Times an hour and the playlist is over 20h lenght.

Add my dissatisfaction with the shuffle system. If the Spotify team needs help programming a better shuffle system, I may be able to help.
Seriously, the shuffling is garbage.

I've been losing my hope with Spotify for over a year now. They keep increasing the price and limiting what we can do, but not fixing the existing issues. I'm pretty sure if users choose to "shuffle" a playlist it means exactly that and not "shuffle the dozen of songs Spotify chooses (over and over again( out of a playlist with a thousand". Frustrating.

Spotify can't shuffle my large playlist I listen to all the time - same songs keep appearing. I guess we need to point other people who comment about this issue to this Live Idea thread to upvote the issue. It's only got 4000 votes over 4 years. But I wish that Spotify could see this as a bug rather than some sort of enhancement and just fix it.

Add me to the list of users who'd like the "shuffle" feature to actually, you know, shuffle! Like some of the others, I have a long 1000+ song playlist that I like to listen to like a 70's style college FM radio station. I don't want to hear the same 50 songs over and over again that Spotify thinks are my favorite. And I suspect by listening to them, they become more "favorite" to Spotify's algorithm! Please fix this!!!

As much as I would like Spotify to fix this, I don't believe they will - they've had years to do it, and haven't.

Spotify are arrogant enough to ignore their customers and do whatever they want instead of what their customers want.

Coming to this forum to request this change seems completely pointless - I think this forum serves to bury this idea whilst  Spotify pretends it cares.

As someone was saying, this isn't a feature that is needed. It is a bug that needs to fixed.

Spotify can't or won't fix it. They aren't even courteous enough to come clean and say why it works the way it does, and why they won't fix it.

Using another provider, so far I've heard more than 6 hours of music of my playlist in shuffle mode without a single repeat - it makes me happy that I achieved what I wanted, and I'm not paying Spotify anymore.

I'm only on this forum out of curiosity to see how this develops, its like watching a crash in slow motion.

oddindeed

they will most definitely not fix this, simply because they don't care about the user only about the money. plus, the decisions are made mostly by they algorithm, by learning the song you play / listen to. and it does not learn form the songs you don't listen to / skip. i think this is so dumb because why would you teach your algorithm with only half the information from a user. anyways, here's the same song you just listen to in the last hour, CAUSE YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH RIGHT?!???
