[All Platforms][Playlists] Add the same song to multiple playlists simultaneously

There is no reason why Spotify shouldn't have a functionality on at least the desktop app where you can drag one song into as many "selected" playlists as you want and have that song added to all of them at the same time…

Here's a little more info to back up this request:

I'm, for one, the kind of person who obsesses over music, and a huge component of that is the way in which I organize my playlists.

I believe it is probably safe to say that most people wish their music was better organized, but the primary reason why they aren't is simply the amount of time it takes to put together quality playlists. Instead, what most people end up with are a small handful of enormous playlist hundreds, if not thousands, of songs that have no rhyme or reason to why they are in the same playlists.

To avoid this dilemma, I have spent hours and hours sorting through all my favorite songs and making different types of playlists that they may fit into. One thing I learned early on is that a particular song is likely going to fit into multiple playlists, and this is where the problem lies and the primary reason why most people avoid making well thought out playlists altogether.

In order to add a song to all the playlists I want, I have to sit at my computer and continuously drag a new song I want put into different playlists into each individual one over and over again which, when organizing dozens or even hundreds of songs, can take an insane amount of unnecessary time. And that is if you happen to be creating and organizing playlists on the desktop app… if you are trying to do this on your phone, you might as well forget about it - it would take you an hour to add 20 different songs to 10 different playlists.

That is why I believe Spotify should add a function (starting on desktop and eventually moving onto mobile like they are likely to do with the "folders" for playlists) in which a single song can be added to multiple playlists at the same time.

Attached is a picture originally posted by a subscriber named anaraee who had requested this a few years ago, but apparently wasn't able to get enough traction then... hopefully this time will be different.

It seems the idea is being implemented as part of a change that sees the Like 'heart' button swap to a plus button. Screenshots in an article today in The Verge imply a multi-select function.

It's.. been... 7 years since this thread started, 5 years since my 1st reply to this thread, and 2 years since my 2nd reply stating that it's been 3 years since my 1st reply to this thread... and finally.. it is happening. My body is ready.

So, is it being made or not? Damn I'm surprised from how long people is waiting for this simple option, others as Youtube already have it...

Back in October 2015, @anaraee had originally posted on this board recommending that Spotify incorporate a very practical feature that would allow users to add a single song to multiple playlists through a checkbox interface, rather than having to go back and forth clicking "add to playlist" multiple times when a song needs to go into multiple playlists.

After seeing that the original idea had lost traction and became inactive, four years later in October 2019, still frustrated by the absence of this feature, I reposted the original idea with some updated thoughts such as making it a feature on both desktop and mobile since I was doing a lot of playlist making on both platforms.

It's now March of 2023, three and a half years since my repost and seven and a half years since the original idea was suggested. In that time, this idea has accumulated over a thousand likes and hundreds of comments.

While it's been a very long and frustrating road for diligent playlist makers like myself, it's with a healthy dose of satisfaction that I can share this screenshot that shows a multiple playlist checkbox interface active on my iPhone.

I know that a few months ago Spotify ran a trial rollout of this feature, then rolled it back... but I'm hoping now that it's been live for over a week that it's not going to become a permanent Spotify feature. And while I currently don't have it active on my desktop app, seeing it live on mobile gives me reason to believe it's only a matter of time.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who's supported this idea over the years and to Spotify for eventually listening to the suggestions of the community. Also want to thank the community leaders and mods who have engaged with this idea over the years:

 @Jeremy @Alex @Mihail @Jacob @TreyAnastasio @osornios @Jose_M @MartinStoichkov @meahtenoha @blake

Giving us this very practical feature is sure to improve the experience of thousands of dedicated playlisters like myself and improve the overall playlisting creation experience for those who don't yet know how useful this feature will be.

Much Love,

A screenshot has never  brought me so much joy.
I pretty much gave up on this ever happening and switched to another platform since voting for this years ago.
Thanks OP, you’ve done us a real service. May you and your playlists live on and prosper.

The problem now is that it's only on Iphones... why the **bleep** do they always make new things first on iphones and only later on other devices? It's not even on the desktop app!

Gosh I really hope thes rumours are true I've been waiting for them do add this for so long and hopefully it isn't delayed for androids, it's going to save me so much time

Spotify did bring out this feature for a short time and it was amazing! Why did it stop? Desperate for it to come back.

Edit: I just saw the OP shared a screenshot with it actually happening on their iPhone. I still can’t see it on mine and I have the most recent update. Anyone else have this??

I've noticed on iOS (ver. 8.8.54.544) the "Add to playlist" button works differently than the one on Android (ver. 8.8.54.481 - which I don't know why it's older than the one on iPhone).

On Android it only lets you add to one playlist at time, and you don't know on which playlists the song is on.

On iOS however, you have toggle buttons on each playlist and you see exactly on which playlists the song is, and you can toggle the switch next to each playlist to add it to them in one go.

It should be on Android already.

Memberships go up a dollar and we still dont see this functionality implemented on Android. Also, ironically enough post membership increase, my like button stopped working.

You're going downhill spotify and I'm not about to follow you. If any devs are following this thread, nows the time for action. Please.
