Bring back "Pin playlists to homescreen"

According to a discussion on https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Move-playlists-to-Homescreen/td-p/5453989 it is "currently not available".

Albums are possible to be pinned to the homescreen, but the support to do the same with playlists is removed recently

Through this way I would like to request to add this functionality back to the android app

***update: I did get a playlist shortcut back on my Android homescreen finally. Try going into the app drawer, long press on the Spotify icon, the Playlist i wanted popped up in the context menu, another long press sent it to the homescreen.

***update 2: Wasn't sure at first how to control what playlists show up in the long press pop-up but so far it has worked by navigating to the Playlist and hitting the phone's homescreen button and going back through the long-press process above. Each time the most recently displayed playlist in the app was visible in the pop-up.

I'm a little late to this party. My last two phones had the shortcuts automatically transferred over by the phone backup service; so I had no idea this had been removed until my most recent phone transfer didn't bring them with it! Super bummed. I used those homescreen shortcuts literally every day.

Like @phrozenstare mentioned, my work vehicle is a Ford Transit van fleet vehicle. No android auto even though it's a 2019 so the shortcut was a huge lifesaver while driving. Not every new vehicle has fancy tech.

Thanks to the author of this idea who posted a very straightforward request to  "add this functionality back to the android app"

In response we get a totally over the top reply from Spotify: "Hey! Looks like your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing!"

There's nothing AMAZING about it apart from the fact that a feature that was working fine and used by many people was removed for no obvious reason. Please Spotify get off your holes and put it back the way it was...

Roshimitsu

For sure, They removed it because without the Feature you use spotify more In app. Means more ads. So I loose hope, they bring it back.

Without this Feature I think I prefere Apps with better Sound quality. Especially spotify algorithm is getting to spready more and more.

It's so useful to have favorite playlist in mobile home screen and play them immediately, specially when I want to have downloaded playlist to play offline in my mobile.

This option existed before and suddenly was erased from mobile app for Android, based on december 2022 post; I found that answer in this post:

In line with pinning... why can't we delete auto generated content?

For the love of Pete... PLEASE allow users to delete or remove content. My sons viewing of a show called "**bleep**" now brings up an image of a giant pile of **bleep** in a toilet. It is disgusting and ridiculous that I can't manually remove it!

I agree with Roshimitsu. Spotify in the good old version is gone and never coming back. The new features are making it increasingly difficult for me to listen to my music. Spotify wants to control how I listen to my music and is changing the functionality to do that. That's sad but unfortunately I don't see an alternative to spotify either

Roshimitsu

blk146, 100 percent on your side. Especially your Argumentation about the algorithm.

YouTube music and Amazon music still allow pinning playlists to the homescreen. Hey Chat GPT how can I export my playlists from Spotify?

Penquin1972
How do you do it in Amazon Music? I have the Android app and can't see a way.

"YouTube music and Amazon music still allow pinning playlists to the homescreen. Hey Chat GPT how can I export my playlists from Spotify?"

Chat GPT says:

Hello! There are several ways to export your playlists from Spotify, depending on what you want to do with them. Here are a few options:

  1. Export as a text file: You can export your Spotify playlists as a text file by using a third-party website such as "SpotMyBackup" or "Playlist Buddy". Here are the steps to do it:
  • Go to the website of your choice and log in with your Spotify account.
  • Select the playlists you want to export.
  • Choose the format you want to export them in (such as CSV or JSON).
  • Click "Export" and wait for the site to generate the file.
  • Download the file to your computer.
  1. Use third-party software: You can use third-party software like "SongShift" or "TuneMyMusic" to export your playlists from Spotify to other music services. Here are the steps to use "SongShift" to export your playlists:
  • Download the "SongShift" app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Open the app and connect your Spotify account.
  • Choose the playlists you want to export.
  • Choose the destination service where you want to export your playlists (such as Apple Music or Google Play Music).
  • Click "Start Shift" and wait for the app to transfer your playlists.
  1. Manually create playlists in another service: You can manually recreate your Spotify playlists in another music service by searching for each song and adding it to a new playlist. This option can be time-consuming, but it ensures that your playlists are accurately transferred.

bring this feature back. this has ruined spotify for me.

Why was this feature removed? Rhetorical question; because you wanted to force more eyes on the homepage of the app, because that is what artists are paying you as part of the exposure deal to be on the platform; but are you not making enough money as it is being the largest and most wisely used music platform in the world (outside YouTube)?

The only workaround for this right now, until your product mangers find their morality again, is to use a macro builder tool; there are a few out there, in the Google store.
