Bring back "Pin playlists to homescreen"

According to a discussion on https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Move-playlists-to-Homescreen/td-p/5453989 it is "currently not available".

Albums are possible to be pinned to the homescreen, but the support to do the same with playlists is removed recently

Through this way I would like to request to add this functionality back to the android app

***update: I did get a playlist shortcut back on my Android homescreen finally. Try going into the app drawer, long press on the Spotify icon, the Playlist i wanted popped up in the context menu, another long press sent it to the homescreen.

***update 2: Wasn't sure at first how to control what playlists show up in the long press pop-up but so far it has worked by navigating to the Playlist and hitting the phone's homescreen button and going back through the long-press process above. Each time the most recently displayed playlist in the app was visible in the pop-up.

I'm a little late to this party. My last two phones had the shortcuts automatically transferred over by the phone backup service; so I had no idea this had been removed until my most recent phone transfer didn't bring them with it! Super bummed. I used those homescreen shortcuts literally every day.

Like @phrozenstare mentioned, my work vehicle is a Ford Transit van fleet vehicle. No android auto even though it's a 2019 so the shortcut was a huge lifesaver while driving. Not every new vehicle has fancy tech.

Oh, I see! For podcasts and original albums it provides nice icons, but you're right - for playlists it gives the generic icon shortcut.

When you pick a playlist from your homescreen does it autoplay likit used to? I was able to find the pinning option he mentioned but again this is not the same, at least not on samsung galaxy phones. The artwork from the playlist doesn't transfer as I've shown in my screenshot. When I pick one of these shortcuts it just opens the playlist, no autoplay. So again not like before.

@Jo_achim, big thx. Album works very good. I see New hope, they bring the in app "playlist to homescreen" feature back. Anyways with albums it's a nice workaround and my world ist right again. 😛

Spotify, you messed up my home screen, a couple days ago. I had playlists and albums saved on my side screen, in addition to the 4 playlists in my "Ready Player" folder. They all disappeared. You have no business adding features, only to take them away. That messes with our phones and computers. Leave things alone, if they're already implemented and working fine.

Oh holy fu**ing sh*t it actually somewhat happend!

I was able to get the workaround running again!

I was able to play a playlist and get the Playlist to show up in the Homescreen App-Context Menu again. And from there I was able to drag the Playlist to my homescreen again.

It's not perfect by any means but it works again. Dunno if it's intended or just a bug but it works for me again!
Plus it is now possible to exclude playlists from the godforsa*en algorythm that spotify is somehow proud of.

I am actually surprised that something like this happend because they are normally so frustratingly stubborn in excluding the user as far as possible from the choice of music he's supposed to like.
It is nice to get a little bit of controll back and way more important to fugging pin a godfors*ken playlist back to the dan* homescreen.

Sorry for the writing tourette syndrom but I am very excited to see some Customerservice in a while. xD

Today I checked and the icons for playlist are also back. Unfortunately, the shortcuts for podcasts are missing again 😕

@Jo_achim

Thank you so much for tagging me! I just updated all my playlists which makes things so much easier when I'm driving or at the gym. Or just trying to get something on to stay focused without getting distracted by all the other things on my phone. I'm still upset the autoplay function isn't back but at this I'll take what I can get. I did just get the new Samsung one ui update last night, I'm not sure that plays a role for anyone still missing this function on the android platform. I noticed that I can't pin any new podcasts as well either. Albums are still working though. So maybe they are trying to restore the code and missing a few things?

Spotify's canned response is condescending: "Hey! Looks like your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing!"

I quit spotify today. I was sick of their lack of customer service, sick of being used as a Guinea pig, and sick of Spotify just not caring about their customers. To call how they re-implemented this "customer service" is a joke. They presumably did the easiest possible thing, and its still poor compared to what was taken away.

The latest thing, beyond this whole thread, was finding p_o_r_n_o_graphic material on our family homepage as a suggested podcast. No way to remove or hide it, and Spotify "support" asks me all sorts of questions about it (like who is the author - a screenshot was not good enough?). This has been a known problem for a while, and they've done nothing about it. Funny - look what happens if I type s_e_x here is this thread: **bleep** it gets bleeped out. But they can't keep that out of the actual service? And won't spend the effort?

Nope, I'm done with being angry at Spotify all the time. I have trial subscriptions with Deezer and Tidal. Deezer has already imported all my playlists.

Does Spotify make you angry? Quit.

McCroskey90

Yeah it is wack they removed it, makes no sense.
