[Car Thing][Developer] SDK for Spotify Car Thing

Hi Team,

Car thing is very nice piece of hardware, specially the controls. I am sad to see it going away. I want to ask the team to release an SDK for it, so the homebrew developers can keep it alive for longer. Please consider it before killing the device support.

Spotify should open source the car thing instead of creating more ewaste. When Stadia shutdown, Google created a way for users to turn their Stadia controllers into a standard Bluetooth controllers. Spotify should at the very least open source car thing, if not they should refund all customers.

Arbitrarily shutting down tech is contributing to ewaste and is not an environmentally friendly practice. Hopefully this goes through as the alternative - essentially bricking a device people have paid for - is a terrible practice.

They have absolutely zero intentions of doing something that would only benefit their consumers with no way to monetize it. Case and point, this was submitted almost TWO YEARS AGO, even marked "Good Suggestion" as a way to patronize the people who bought this before they release some "sorry" video and wiping their hands of it forever.

The last thing we need is more e-waste. It would be selfish to brick devices people already paid for, so just open it up for people to use for other reasons.

Very disappointed to hear they are officially discontinuing the hardware. I love mine and still use it every day to and from work. Maybe if Spotify does not push out an SDK, someone else will find a viable replacement to allow those of us who want it, to have it. Very disappointed.

Same here, what a bummer from Spotify. They promote this hip image of a company willing to experiment and promote experimentation, only to end up deprecating a product sold two years back. Shame on you. Considering the move to Tidal as a result.

Maybe let it run via wifi! Or just let it be a controller for Spotify over Sonos etc

This is a disappointment to see. I have no hope that Spotify will do anything about this. They never listen to feedback.

Why discontinue this?? Absolutely frustrating for those who purchased this. Will we get a refund? Doubt it. 

Heading back to the bay
