When you think of the backs of CDs, a vinyl or even a tape there is almost always artwork and a unique design. A whole other dimension into the album as a whole that has since vanished in the digital age.
I think it would be interesting if there was a way the song title section of an album in Spotify could be custom, allowing artists to create their page’s theme similar to the originality of the Album cover itself.
If there is a way to do this without the app spiking the phones CPU too significantly and without being too stressful for developers then I think this an option you should explore.
If possible create a page template that third party developers can use expediting the process. This could also be a customization you would have to pay for to implement based on the complexity of the album theme.
This could be featured a few ways, the first being an upgraded subscription featuring access to these interactive album pages.
The second possibility is allowing Spotify Artists to charge for the interactive album version of their page almost like buying skins for an album and also offer a subscription to an artist’s profile which could be featured alongside following a profile as an upgraded option.
There is a fixed price to buy the album page theme if a person wishes to purchase a single album rather than subscribe.
Obviously anyone with a Spotify subscription would still be able to listen to any song they like, but creating unique themes around the song title page of an album opens up an opportunity to offer a more easily accessible marketplace for artists creating a world around their album as a piece of art.
Some ideas for album page features could be:
- A CD style digital booklet within the app
- Artist’s album accompaniments such as things like books of poetry, photo albums, interactive artwork,
- Backgrounds and customizations for the scrolling lyrics and a way to link Genius style lyric analyzations as one of the modes available. (This may already be possible, will check.)
- Somewhat more of an interactive app rather than a background one.
