[Desktop] Select default sound device for Spotify Connect

Currently Spotify defaults to using the default sound device when launched, it would be neat if you could choose which sound device you want to use instead in the options screen.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Take care.

I have a Jabra headset, that is connected to Notebook & iPhone at the same time.
I would love to be able to switch back to local speaker on my Notebook or iPone when I am in a call on the other device.

On my Windows notebook I now created a shortcut on my desktop for C:\Windows\explorer.exe ms-settings:apps-volume
But I would still like to be able to do this from within the app from my iPhone, when I don't have my notebook to play music in the background.

PS: What do you have to do to get an idea implemented when even 5000+ votes in 10 years is put on 'not right now'?
Yes there are workarounds, but I think over the years this is still relevant!

Yes it's not right now because everyone listens to music in their crappy little phone speakers all the time. You've got much more important things to implement, like spending months slightly changing the font.

That is an abysmal answer to an obviously hugely wanted feature. Either it's technically difficult for you to impllement (unlikely) or there is some political/financial incentive that you are prioritising over your customers best interestes - and that's pretty poor to say the least.

I vote for this, because I wish only to play through my beocreate sound device via spotify connect!

Agree this is a must feature for music player apps that is Spotify.

I want to force Spotify app to use my sound interface that is used only for music, while all PC sounds should use Default device that is another sound interface ( PC integrated sound)

We use an Android tablet to control a Sonos device for music. We use the Spotify app because the UI is far better than Spotify. However, every time we start the app, it defaults to playing on the tablet.

We need to be able to set the Sonos as the default device.

Same as the many comments above.
I only stream music to my WiiM device, but I have to manually reselect the device in the 'Connect to Device' area every time after pausing for a while. It would be great if Spotify could remember and automatically reconnect to the last-used device after a pause or disconnection.

Spotify - any chance to have this requested 1.5 year ago feature from  'Not Right Now' to 'Now' ?

At almost 5,500 votes since original posting in 2012, seeing this as "not right now" posted back in 2023 and its 2025. This seems like a "Not ever" which is lame since you have almost 5500 people who voted, many have been paying for Spotify for years wanting the feature. Yeah, some probably are the free account, but I pay for the family plan so, whatever.

How much code would it take honestly to add an audio output device selection. Ideally this would remember in the case of laptops or device availability. If a USB or BT audio is selected, switch to default when not available then switch back when available again.

It would be incredibly useful if the Spotify desktop app on Windows had an option to manually choose the audio output device — similar to how applications like Google Meet or Zoom allow you to select your speaker or headphone output independently.

Here’s a practical use case: I often participate in meetings using a Bluetooth headset while also listening to music on external speakers or a monitor. However, since Spotify uses the system default audio device, I’m forced to switch the entire system’s output to either the headset or the speakers, which disrupts my workflow and other audio applications.

If Spotify allowed users to select a specific output device (e.g., Bluetooth headphones, external speakers, monitor speakers), we could route music independently from other system sounds or communications apps. This would make multitasking much more efficient — for example, listening to Spotify through Bluetooth headphones while keeping system sounds or meeting audio on another output device.

Please consider adding this feature to enhance audio flexibility and user control. It would be a game-changer for productivity and convenience!
