[Discover] Exclude selected Playlists from Taste Profile and Discover Suggestions

I play music off Spotify for my bubba to fall asleep to. This is typically classical/meditative relaxing style tracks. Since she sleeps 4 times a day this type of music is getting a LOT of playtime but is not representative of my music taste. I'm finding my Discover Weekly (which I LOVE by the way) is moving more away from my music and more towards the classical/chill out stuff I play for the little one.

Would be super cool to be able to mark a playlist to exclude it from the Discover algorithm.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that Exclude from Taste Profile feature is now available on all platforms. There's more info about the topic in our Newsroom Article.

If you'd like to give it a try right now, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the playlist of your choice.
  2. Tap the three dots near the top of the playlist.
  3. Select “Exclude from your Taste Profile.”

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community 🙂

I'm not a developer, but I'm trying to think about what could be the issue. Is it because the code is too hard to manage....OR is it because they don't want us to be able to turn off our data...

I really dislike the response from Spotify. I have many playlists that are situational, but it would be such a better experience to indicate those as exempt so I can discover new music like I used to. My current discover weekly has Tchaikovsky on it-- let's see what new tunes he's dropped lately!

Not to mention, smart devices can not use private listening...so its not really an option for the smart home users to interact with spotify.

After yet another year of having concentration music playlists influence my Discover weekly and '2020 wrapped', I've had enough Spotify.

I am cancelling my premium family account, and I'm actually pretty happy about it. I will give the other services a go. As long as I know issue isn't fixed 'not right now', it' will be an easy decision to stay clear, in spite, if nothing else.

Also for the record, I have been using 'Private mode' consistently this year, knowing how frustrating it is to have a ridiculously untailored Discover weekly... it simply doesn't work. 90% of my suggested tunes are techno that I have no interest in, but use to focus for work.

Goodbye, Spots.

Give this guy all the likes! You go robgerard!!!

Hey Spotify, how about you take another look and fix this problem. You keep focusing on other inconsequential features, but this one would increase the community engagement, and revitalize interaction and discovery with your program. I have over 180,000 minutes of listening this year, but my Discover Weekly is filled with suggestions based off of a playlist called “Piano for Sleep” it would be SIMPLE for you to just make a button to exclude playlists like this from my taste profile, and help thousands of users who use Spotify for myriad purposes to love your product even more than they already do.

Sorry spotify but your response is more than pathetic! Your latest response is from months ago and you are still not changing the status? Are f***g serious? You are most obviously not interested in your customers being satisfied! For me the rather same issue is more relevant when it comes to audiobooks, please see here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Discover-Exclude-Audiobooks-Podcasts-from-Discover-Playl...

Hopefully some of the earlier commenters leave a like there to help spotify realize that is important!

I really liked my Spotify but I most likely need to leave and give somebody else a shot.....:(

Totally sucks that Spotify does not care about this at all. Guess the only chance is if people keep on spamming this idea over and over again until Spotify is fed up.

Does anyone know how this plays out on other platforms?

If you find a better option, please post here so Spotify users know
where to change to.
