Improving Mix Playlists: Playback Intensity Control (Highlight Mode)

I propose improving the Mix playlist system in Spotify by introducing a playback intensity control feature when creating a mix.

Currently, Mix playlists play full tracks only, which makes listening slower and less flexible. Users cannot control how tracks are played within a mix.

Solution:

Add a setting when creating a mix (“Create Mix”), where users can choose the playback mode:

- Highlight Mode (25–50%) — plays only the most engaging part of the track (e.g., chorus), then quickly transitions to the next track

- Balanced Mode (50–80%) — partial playback with smoother transitions

- Full Mode (100%) — standard full-track playback

Also include a simple slider to adjust intensity.

Benefits:

- Speeds up Mix playlist listening

- Reduces the need to manually skip tracks

- Gives users more control over their Mix

- Makes Mix playlists more dynamic and engaging

Additional features:

- Automatic detection of the best parts of a track (AI Highlight)

- Smooth transitions between tracks (based on BPM and key)

Important:

This feature is already well implemented in the Android application (Offtrack)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.offtrack.app

This demonstrates that such a listening format is practical and востребован among users.

I sincerely believe that the developers at can implement this feature and make it even better for millions of users.

Why this matters:

This transforms Mix playlists from a static list of tracks into an interactive and customizable listening tool.
