Mix Sandbox

Mix Sandbox Tab

Hi Spotify Team,

I'm a Spotify user who loves the song mixing feature, and I wanted to share an idea that I think could make it significantly more accessible and fun to use.

Right now, to mix songs, users have to first add tracks to a playlist and then navigate to the mix option. While the feature itself is great, the process feels like it has one too many steps — especially when someone just wants to quickly experiment with two songs they have in mind.

My idea: a dedicated "Mix Sandbox" tab on the bottom navigation ribbon.

Here's how it would work:

• Users tap the Mix Sandbox tab and are greeted with a clean, simple interface prompting them to select any two songs from their library or by search.
• Once the two songs are chosen, the mix is generated on the spot — no playlist required.
• If the user loves what they hear, they get the option to save the mix directly to an existing playlist or a new one, where it's stored for future listening.
• If they don't like it, they can simply swap out a song and try again — instant experimentation with zero friction.

Why this matters: The current flow creates a barrier between the idea ("I wonder what these two songs would sound like mixed") and the action. A sandbox environment removes that barrier entirely, making the mix feature feel spontaneous and playful rather than something that requires setup. It lowers the commitment to try, which means more users will actually engage with the feature.

This could also become a social touchpoint — users sharing mixes they discovered through sandbox experimentation, driving organic engagement on the platform.

I believe this would meaningfully increase usage of the mix feature and delight users who want a more creative, low-effort way to explore music. I hope this idea is worth considering!

Thank you for building such a great product and for taking the time to read this.

Love the sandbox idea. And if spotify chooses to do as suggested they can add a Spotify AI agent that guides them on how to use the feature to its full potential. Yet have the ai do it and you can fix transitions if you don’t like it. In short, love the sandbox idea. I have an idea similar:

I would like to add:

- the mixing has great options but it does not allow you to save custom presets or transitions.
- if you want to do the same custom transition for a few songs in queue - you have to configure every single song individually feature by feature, which is too tedious and time consuming.

I definitely agree, I think this idea could go really far if they picked it up and implemented it.
