Option to disable auto connect and play

Hello,

I was writing to ask for an additional option in settings to prevent Spotify from automatically playing when it recognizes / connects to any bluetooth device.

In my car, when trying to hear driving instructions, Spotify opened itself and began playing. I had to continuously close it (4-5 times) which was creating a driving hazard. Also it begins playing immediately each time i start my car, which has just become annoying.

When using my phone, I'll be watching a video and decide I want to hear the sound. I pop in my headphones and immediately Spotify initiates itself and begins playing, instead of the active app I'd like to be listening to.

Sorry for complaining, but it has just become too annoying. Otherwise, really enjoy the app.

Thank you!

I really hate the automatic connection to other devices. Just today I started Spotify on my computer (connected to speakers), but for some reason Spotify decided that my PC wanted to play from my phone instead. I changed it back to the computer, but Spotify decided two times more (within five minutes) to play from my phone.

I just hate this. If I want to play from another device, I usually start spotify on that device, and I certainly don't want Spotify to change device without asking me.

My new favourite spotify button is force stop on android. This combined with preventing background activity mostly works for me.

Here's my issues related to this post, which do NOT involve changing the state of bluetooth or headphones:

1. I get in my Tesla and it starts playing Spotify. Randomly, it'll switch to playing on my phone. I retry on the Tesla and it plays for awhile and then switches back to my phone. Rinse and repeat anywhere from 1-5 times while driving.

2. I start playing Spotify on my computer (Mac). Randomly, it'll switch to playing on my phone. I switch back to my computer and it's happy for awhile. But randomly will switch back to my phone here and there.

Super annoying. There is no other music app out there that has ever done this with either scenario (and I've evaluated a bunch)

The spotify will start playing through my car automatically when I start the car. I don't want that, as I only want spotify to play when I get into the app.

I found this thread because just this morning I was playing music through a speaker on my computer. I took out my bluetooth headphones which auto connected to my phone.

Spotify was open in the background of my phone, so Spotify immediately starts playing on my phone. However there is a problem with this feature, even when working as intended. Spotify does not have the context of what I am currently listening to because it has been in the background. So, as other users have pointed out, I lose the context of what I was listening to.

The most frustrating part of all this is that I don't even want Spotify to auto switch my device in the first place! It is very common to have multiple devices and connect bluetooth devices to them for purposes other than music, most commonly phone calls and virtual meeting applications.

I love Spotify and have used it for many years now. This feature is the only one I find to be very frustrating. The option to disable it would be well received.

Edited to add: Spotify just switched to my phone from my computer to my phone without me changing any bluetooth connections. The feature is unreliable even for its intended purpose.

Echoing the comments here: if there's a Chromecast playing through Spotify Connect and I connect my headphones to make a phone call, Spotify stops the cast and plays through the headphones, disrupting the music for others in the household.

Somewhat recently it started switching to my phone from my computer or tablet totally randomly. Not when my phone connects to bluetooth or anything. I often set up a bluetooth speaker connected to my tablet, and the tablet is for anyone to select music from, but I like to be able to control the music from my phone while playing through the tablet. But when I do this, it will just randomly switch to my phone, so I have to completely quit the app on my phone. Same when I'm at work and listening on my desktop, I'll pick up my phone to answer a text or something and it just switches to my phone for no reason.

Fixthisapp

Work around of removing nearby device permissions has now stopped working.

This fix is absolutely needed. I don't want Spotify changing to my headphones automatically. Why would I want that? It's already playing where I want. I'll change it if I want. If I'm playing on my headphones and go to the car, I'll put my headphones away before I start the car... This logic just doesn't compute. Stupid "working as intended" responses just frustrate your customers.

I have the same issue as everyone else. It annoys me to the point I am considering changing streaming services.
