Option to disable live lyrics transcripts

One of the recent versions of Spotify added a feature which automatically displays current lyrics above the song title when in full-page player view.

As a native English speaker, I can't think of any more annoying "feature".

I would like to ask Spotify to add a toggle user-controlled setting to permanently turn off lyrics transcripts in the app.

Add an option to turn off the mini lyric line on the Now Playing screen. There’s already a full Lyrics section right under that area, so having lyrics also shown between the cover art and song info feels unnecessary and clutters the player. I’m sure I’m not the first person to bring this up. I get that some people probably like it, but there should be a way to disable it for users who prefer a cleaner look focused on the cover art and song details.

Hey @Justmid

There is already a setting to turn off the new inline lyrics preview in the Now Playing View.

To enable or disable the new inline lyrics feature once you have it, tap on the ... 3 dots icon at the top right of the Now Playing View to bring up the options menu and then tap on the "Lyrics on / off" option

I, noticed this recently too ,  I usually scroll down to the lyrics when i'm working out , I admit the feature is interesting but we dont need two lyrics locations in the app , and the one near the album art is sorta jarring and has to physically load  when im away from wifi , it actually effects playback.  So yes i'm not a fan of it much at all.

Im not sure i have a strong opinion about disabling it, although an on off switch might be nice.

The real problem is that it painfully exposes situations where the lyrics aren't synce correctly. Often the lyrics are cued early halfway through the preceding phrase. What would be awesome (and off topic) is if they allowed you to adjust the general delay per song and used user feedback to correctly align the lyrics. Usually the time duration/speed isn't the issue, it's just off by constant time value.

I love this new feature! But totally understand wanting to toggle it off. I hope they keep it.

That's fine, lyndsayb. All I'm saying that it'd be great to have an on/off switch so that everyone can decide for themselves.

I personally find constantly refreshing text very distracting.

This has got to be the worst innovation to date! Lyrics where the album cover is? We need two places to read lyrics? I don’t want this! What a horrible feature that I can’t turn off. I’m looking at another streaming service. Pathetic!!!

Susitalolita

This option is NOT available to me and I have a premium account. I’m ready to leave Spotify!

You can actually turn this feature off. Simply press the three vertical dots in the upper right corner, and then select "Lyrics" from the menu.

No, you can't do that. At least not on the podcasts/playlists I've got on my device. Perhaps the author can control this setting but there is no application-wide switch that I know about.
