[Playlists] Sort by Release Date

It would be nice to be able to sort a playlist by the release date of the songs.

I agree... being able to sort by more options is huge and Apple Music/iTunes has done this for years. Sorting by genre and release date are the biggest two that would be important to me.

Hi Spotify Team,

I also like this idea, because it would allow me to sort an artist's or a playlist's titles by the release date, starting with the oldest songs first, so I can listen to the development over time.

Can we please have a rationale WHY the Spotifiy decided not pursue this idea that is voted for by a couple of community users?

This has been asked for numerous times per year, why has this been placed on the "Not Right Now" list? The year data is already tied to Albums, so adding this sort filter would be the easiest feature! Please Spotify, just do this already!

Reading back, there is a lot of support for this and it seems like a major failing on Spotify's part. Why WOULDN'T they do this?! And for what reason?! The Ideas section is meant to be a place for Spotify to interact with it's user base and build a better platform, and yet, they ignore suggestions with major support without providing any justification as to why. It feels like the Ideas section is really just a place to let users complain so that Spotify doesn't have to respond. Spotify, prove to us that you care... this idea hits the minimum vote count you require, so do you have plans to implement this feature after years of requests? And if not, why?

Why not right now? I would love this feature because when I'm playing music, I don't want songs to correspond to each other. Sometimes you don't want a new song after an old banger.

I have no idea why this isn't an option. It's such an obvious way to organize music.

Adding a "Sort by Release Date" would be a huge benefit for those of us who file(d) our physical record collections in alphabetical order by release date. I understand this may be a challenge for Spotify because of the many remasters and collections that exist on the platform. From working in music retail for many years, I know that many early CDs of albums that weren't previously available on that platform (and thus the digital files) have a release date of 1989 or something like that. I don't know for sure that this is the reason why we haven't seen a "Sort by Release Date", but it was the first thing that popped into my head about why we wouldn't have seen something like this that seems like such a no-brainer.
