Tap should add to queue instead of interrupt song

When a song is playing I almost never want to interrupt it.

often, I’m browsing or searching through songs while listening to a playlist and I accidentally tap one. That interrupts whatever’s playing and starts the new song immediately. This can be really disruptive and frustrating.

Example: a friend texts me a link to a song. I tap it because I’m curious what they want to share, not because I want to play it immediately.

Ex. 2: I’m scrolling through artists and albums with my kids, actively enjoying what we’re listening to and curating the active queue or playlist. I accidentally tap one song.

the problem isn’t just that the current song gets interrupted; equally frustrating is that the entire playlist changes. Now I need to actively engage for an entirely different purpose: I have to go back and find the playlist that just got interrupted. I just want to pick up right where I left off, but to do so I need to change the whole context.

i would much much prefer for the default behavior when I tap on a song to be “add to queue.” Or to take me to the song detail—which should be the default when opening the app from an external link.

the album artwork is big enough to be the tap area for a play button.

  • Maybe tapping on a song could start a new queue and save the one you were listening to previously in a queues tab. Spotify could save a few queues that you could go back to and continue
