Album Covers Don't Show on iOS Lock Screen Player

We've been getting reports that album covers don't appear correctly on the iOS lockscreen. This is being investigated.

Hi there folks,

A fix for this has been deployed in the latest version. Please make sure your device is updated and test if everything works. Consider performing a clean reinstall as well to get things on the right track.

If the issue persists, please provide us the following info:

  • The exact app version you're on
  • What iOS version you're using
  • Does it happen after listening to local files? Does it happen to all songs after breaking?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

With this info, we'll continue the investigation if necessary.

NOTE: If you're facing the issue on CarPlay, be advised that there's a different issue about that. We're aware of it and investigating it separately. If this applies to you, check out this thread to stay updated and make sure to try any provided troubleshooting and send any necessary info.

Cheers!

My Question or Issue:

Album art does not load on lock screen after a song is played that has no album art (mainly local files). I quit out of the app and go back in to play a song with album art and it works. When a song in shuffle has no album art it seems to break the display check for other album art. Don't know what the code looks for when checking album art but it seems to break.

yep, works until it plays a local file without art, then it breaks.

@Joan I didn't record a video, but it is the same as @aidanSaun30

Glad I’m not the only one having this issue. On a separate but maybe related issue, did you by chance transfer local files from a PC/Mac to your iPhone and the album art didn’t transfer to half of the tracks you downloaded?

My PC recognizes the album art on the 3 albums under the Local Files tab and when I add the albums to my playlist, but something is breaking album art on certain songs of those albums when opening my playlist on iPhone and the data is transferred. It doesn’t matter if the file format is .mp3 or .m4a either.

I tried reversing the process from my phone to PC since all the album art is recognized under the Local Files tab on there too, but of course Spotify on PC can’t play local files transferred from a phone.

Any tips to remedy this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I've gone both PC to iPhone and Mac to iPhone, but not iPhone to PC/MAC.  Both my Mac and PC access the same file share on my network, so Local Files are the same regardless of Mac or PC.

If a local song has Album art, the next song will also have album art (assuming it has art), but if it doesn't, I get a black box with a musical note inside, and all songs afterward have the same black box and note.   I haven't noticed the case of a local song not transferring the album art if it has it.

Most of my local music does not have Album art, I ripped my CD Collection about 15 years ago and they have just been files on my network work drive.

On Spotify 9.0.22 and it still happening. In Car play it is the most troublesome.

  • Hello this has just happened to myself after updating to most recent update. Any update or way to fix this? Might to move back to Apple until it’s sorted because it’s super annoying
