Downtime 27th June: App crashing on Android

Hey folks!

We're seeing reports that the Android app is crashing. This seems to affect Android 14 devices mostly. Some users are also seeing an error message upon opening the app.

Hey there folks,

Great news - this is fixed and everything should be running smooth now!

Make sure to clear stored cache from the app, should you still experience issues.

Cheers 🙂

Not fixed.

The app crashes when the device is connected to Wi-Fi upon launching Spotify. However, if I initiate the app with Wi-Fi disabled and then activate Wi-Fi once Spotify is running, it functions normally until any app switch is made.

Specifically, if I switch from Spotify to another application, such as a graphic equalizer, and then return to Spotify, it crashes immediately.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

Cleared cache and data for the Spotify app.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify.

Disabled and re-enabled Wi-Fi connectivity.

Conducted a full factory reset of the PX5 system. Initially, after the reset, Spotify worked flawlessly for a day or two with minimal other applications installed.

Unfortunately, the issue resurfaced and continued in the same manner as before.

These steps have not led to a lasting resolution, and the app’s instability persists, specifically following the latest update. I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide or any updates that might address this issue

Follow up.  Uninstalled Spotify and installed a previous 8.9.44.368 version from APK

There have been many updates to your app lately, somewhere along the line you have broken something for a percentage of users!

Can you please undeclare this as fixed?

This does not seem to be fixed with v8.9.52.552.

Exactly the same issue and observed behaviours as @rhetoriccharm.

Device: Pixel 7 Pro

Software:  Android 14

App version: 8.9.52.552

Exactly the same observed behaviour. Only started occuring this morning. Performed a factory reset on phone (as I feared it was a system issue). Exactly the same behaviour recreated after factory reset.

In fact, the behaviour occurs even when the Spotify app starts running in the background showing what is playing on web player on another device. Opening Spotify and selecting a song to play locally also causes the behaviour.

The issue is therefore NOT fixed.

Hey there,

The issue with the app crashing on Android devices should now be fixed! Make sure that your app's up-to-date by following the steps here.

Should you, however, experience issues specifically with Google Pixel devices, we recommend that you have a look at this Ongoing Issues thread for more details. If you're having issue on another device, feel free to create a new thread.

Cheers!
