Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Hey there.

We just wanted to let you know that we've looked into this with the right folks now.

We are currently trying to resolve the issue. We don't have a timeframe for a fix, but we're really glad you let us know about this. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Keep your app up-to-date and have a nice day 🙂

I don't think the issue is with rebooting at all.  After replacing my sd card (the constant downloading killed the old one) and clean installing the spotify app (deleting data, cahe, logging out of offline devices blah blah blah) for around the nth time- I managed to download a large playlist onto the new sd card, where it stayed. This morning, the player froze up in the car and then stopped playing. Then it started playing at random in the middle of the office, after I'd shut the app down. Then i was randomly signed out. But played fine on the drive home. Now sd card storage option as gone and spotify is trying to download songs again to internal storage. F#@k that. Spotify is now deleted and the premium is cancelled.  Back to itunes and double twist it is then.  Shame really because when it worked there is a decent catalogue on here.

Android changed all of the security protocols, encryption, and the way it
stores and recalls data. Could take a min to fix lol....

I'm having similar issues with my Galaxy Note 8 that I recently upgraded to Pie. Forcing the app to the SD card seemed to do the trick (no need to rush and enter my pin before spotify attempts to download my entire playlist. But honestly, this kind of behavior on an app I spend so much on is unacceptable.

Is this a joke or what???
I managed to avoid the issue by forcing move of the app (dev options) and offline music on SD card, worked fine until today's last update that moved back the app on internal storage and forced my galaxy S8 to restart !!!
Result, it again redownloaded all of my offline playlists on internal storage !!!!

This is getting me mad !!!

Spotify please do something !!!

I think it might be a problem with Pie, I thought it was because I was using a ROM, or maybe because my SDcard is formatted as exFAT but it was working ok on Oreo. But I see other people is facing this problem.

Sometimes, when I try to transfer the already downloaded music it appears its transfering but then it switches back to internal storage. Do you have any way that we could provide you logs or something?

Thank you for this. I wouldn’t have figured out that restarting my Note 9 was the cause of my downloaded songs disappearing. I did notice the storage issue and now use my device for storage. I downloaded my saved songs and restarted my phone multiple times with no issues. Overall, I’m not happy about the change but it works. I only have 5GB worth of saved music and it doesn’t make a dent so no big deal. Again thank you.

I think it may have been fixed. Looks like mine has been consistently working for about a week now.

I tried the enter pin before boot option.

I tried the delete all cache and the app option.

The offline devices option too.

 But nothing seems to work.

For me on SG9+ it seems, that problem was solved after last update.
