Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Hey there.

We just wanted to let you know that we've looked into this with the right folks now.

We are currently trying to resolve the issue. We don't have a timeframe for a fix, but we're really glad you let us know about this. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Keep your app up-to-date and have a nice day 🙂

Having the same exact problem. I seriously hope they come with a solution.64GB fills up pretty quick with all the music and everything else. It's super annoying to have to re-download it every other day.

Status changed to: Under investigation

Hey there folks,

We've merged several threads regarding the storage of the Spotify app switching back to the device's internal storage from your SD card, after turning off your device. We've passed these on to our tech teams and they're looking into it.

If your Android version is 9.0 and this issue occurs for you, make sure to add your +VOTE.

We'd also recommend trying the following first:

  • Enable the permission for storage option for Spotify. This can be accessed by going to Settings > Apps Spotify > Permissions > Storage.
  • Perform a clean reinstall the app, making sure to remove any offline devices showing here beforehand.

If the issue persists after that, let us know the following details:

  • Your device and its exact OS version
  • The version of the Spotify app
  • How many times did the storage switch?

Thanks!

Rubenoso
I'm on Pie s9. I've had my external storage Spotify Library delete more
than 10 times. It's only since the update to pie. Your app came
preinstalled so I cannot modify it to try your "fix."

I'm on Pie s9. I have had my library delete from external storage on startup and redownload to internal storage at least 10 times.

Hello

Hi,

Samsung galaxy s8

Android 9 pie

Spotify version 8.4.97.807

All offline data redownloaded on phone  each time I reboot my phone since last android update. Once downloaded again I move it to SD Card Spotify creates a new android offline device. Noticed that once moving to SD freespace does not change at all meaning all data is already there...

Hi,

Im having the same issue as people above but I also noticed one another situation when it happens.

I have Battery Saver constantly turned on and sometimes I see that when I activate my phone SD card is being mounted. It takes no longer than 1 second but it is enough for Spotify for changing storage place from SD card to internal memory.

  •
  • Switching from SD card to Device storage started with Android 9 update on 21 Feb. I noticed when my phone had no storage available and started malfunctioning.
  • I cleared storage and offline devices, reinstalled app, etc. I noticed that there were spurious offline devices (I only download to one phone)
  • Since then, Spotify switches from SD card to Device storage near every day (switched 30 times so far) . I reset it to SD card each time.

OS: Android Pie / 9.0 (Havoc 2.3)

Spotify version in settings: 8.4.97.807

Android 9.0 takes time to load and recognise your SD card. In the mean time spotify auto loads in background , as so does not see SD card so reverts back to internal storage.

The solution is to stop spotify auto loading in background. This means to find an app that delays or stops spotify from loading while booting up.

This is obvious solution for spotify team fix , all they have do is stop auto loading in background while booting.

Radio Reciever: This is the radio receiver that needs to be delayed OR stopped.

I have this issue also since app update. I have looked at all the solutions on here and have not been able to fix.

Premium account

Galaxy S7

Android 8.0.

What I have done so far:

Clean install following instructions on here,  I am now on my seventh attempt.

I either lose the ability to change to SD card or the app tells me I am trying to access a premium feature (really!).

Most recently I have been able to download onto sd card by then when I go out and come back home on resumption of Wi-Fi the storage reverts back to internal.

The sd card appears to be working fine with only the spotify app having issues.

I have cancelled my premium account as if I cannot download off line playlists I might as well keep the free account. I like this app when it works. There is a large selection of music and most of my 5000 track library is non there, I really thought this was a worthwhile alternative to itunes. Seems not. Any solution before the 28th before the premium goes would be most appreciated.
