Music continues playing on mobile after disconnecting Bluetooth

We've received reports that when disconnecting Bluetooth from car systems and such, the playback automatically continues on the phone. This seems to be happening primarily on Android and in particular on Samsung Galaxy phones.

Hi folks,

All our internal testing shows that this should be fixed and we're happy to see that the reports w'ere getting from you seem to suggest the same. Make sure everything is up to date and if you continue to encounter any such issues, reach out to us in the Help section so we can assist you further.

My Question or Issue

As the title says. Spotify Music keeps playing when I disconnect from Bluetooth. On other music player it stops as it should.
Tried clean reinstall didn't help.

Same issue except I'm in US with Galaxy S23.

Happening to me too on OnePlus 12R and no sluggish phone either with 16gb ram. I don't think they will fix it. It has other problems to like taking up to 30 minutes to an hour just to start music to play, since lossless was released.

Android 16 version too

Just started happening for me - UK, also on Samsung Galaxy S25 / Android 16. I thought it was an issue with the phone and was searching all settings I could find, till google brought this thread up.

It doesn't do it every time, I've just tried with the app open and using headphones and it stopped playback.

However when I got out my car just now, when the phone was locked in my pocket, it didn't stop the playback and started blaring loudly in a quiet street.

Same here, Samsung S25+. Clean install didnt help.

Started happening to me this week too. Starts blaring in my pocket as soon as I switch off my vehicle when using Spotify over bluetooth on my A56

Hey folks, welcome to the Spotify Community. Thank you for all your reports. 🎵

I'd recommend a few troubleshooting steps that everyone can try and see what works.

  1. Pair and unpair from the Bluetooth device.
  2. Log out and log in two times in a row from your account to re-sync your account data from your device to the Spotify platform.
  3. You should run a clean reinstall of the app, following the exact steps from this guide as well. This will ensure you're running the latest app version and that the cache is cleared.
  4. For Android Devices with an SD card: uninstall the app, turn off your phone, remove the SD card, then turn on your phone again (without the SD card), and finally reinstall the app.

If nothing from the list works, let me know:

  1. Does this issue occur across devices or only on your phone?
  2. Did this start happening after a recent update to the app?

Keep me posted. 🙂

My Question or Issue

Within a week or two, I've been having some weird issues when leaving my car or when I take my headphones off. This issue comes when I'm done using my Bluetooth device (my car or headphones) and disconnect from the device, and instead of pausing Spotify, it continues to play from the phone's speaker in my pocket. This has never ever happened to me before in years of using Spotify.

My conclusion is that Spotify pushed out an update, and it contains some sort of bug since I have tried two different versions of Samsung on two different phones. I also see many people reporting the same issue on Reddit and trying many different settings on both Spotify and phone settings, but no one seems to find a solution to this problem.

I want to address this problem because it's annoying, and it seems like almost every Samsung user is having this issue right now.

It seems like Samsung is only affected, and I believe it's the latest One UI update that caused it.

Tried all the steps mentioned, didn't help. Yes it did happen after a recent update. like 2 month ago it did work fine.

as utahmanmiddle19
71 mentioned he has an oneplus so i guess it's not just samsung.
