Shuffle not working on iOS

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Shuffle isn't working on iOS. Nothing happens when you tap on the Shuffle icon - only Smart Shuffle seems to work.
This is being looked into 🙂

While this is being looked into, let us know the following details:

1.  Your device's make & model, as well as its OS version
2. Your Spotify app version
3. Does Shuffle not appear as an option in the playlist view and is it shown in the 'Now Playing' view?
4. Description of the exact issue:
     a) Does Shuffle turn off after selecting a particular song?
     b) Are the Shuffle and repeat buttons completely greyed out and unclickable?

It would be of help if you could share with us a short video recording or a link to e.g. an unlisted YouTube video/ Google Drive upload of what is going on on your ends.

Much appreciated! We'll keep you posted.

all playlists, personal and spotify created, are not playing anything on the playlist. I’ll choose a playlist, it will play one song then go off into another genre and play some obscure songs I’ve never listened to before. Like forced anti algorithm smart shuffle

Guys, as Spotify users we are growing tired of this issue and your continued attempts to basic trouble shoot it. I have used multiple new iPhones (16 pro, 17 pro max) during 2025 and created multiple different accounts and registered them to premium to see if this issue is persistent. I have always used the latest iPhone available to me and the latest iOS version and app update. The issue was present with iOS 18 months ago and is also still present with iOS 26. Anyone who signs up to a new Spotify account - the shuffle button is working upon registration, however when subscribed to premium it IMMEDIATELY stops working on the playlist and album view. It stays fully greyed out when you click on it, and the only way to toggle shuffle is from the now playing view when you click on the song that is playing. This issue exists for EVERY SINGLE new account that has signed up to Spotify and signed up to premium. At least if they use an iPhone. This has been an issue for most of the year and I refuse to believe you guys are unaware of it on your end as I’m sure masses of people are having the same issues. It’s also simple to replicate the issue on a brand new account. How hard is it to fix a shuffle button? At this point it’s embarrassing especially for the #1 streaming platform in the world. In 2025 you can’t fix a simple shuffle button? Shuffle is the basis of music playback and has been for decades. It’s growing incredibly frustrating. As users we have been very clear in this thread about what the problem is and how/when it occurs. It’s now up to the developers of the app to fix it. This has been going on for a long long time and the problem exists for every new account created so creating a new account and transferring our music doesn’t even solve the issue for us. Regardless of iOS version, network connection, iPhone device being used, this problem manifests itself. I personally have a theory there is an issue within Spotify’s app that causes a “confusion” in the system recognising whether a user is free or premium once they have subscribed, it’s the only explanation I can come up with as to why the shuffle button works on a free account but not once it becomes a new premium account.

edit- i have logged in to an older account connected to an email address of mine from 2018. I subscribed that account to premium and the shuffle button works fine. Evidently the issue is isolated to newer accounts made within the last year or so.

I would also like to add that once enabling shuffle from the “now playing” view, if you select a brand new song within the playlist, the shuffle will turn itself off and you have to enable it again otherwise it will continue to play the songs in custom order. So the shuffle does not stay on unless you allow the queue to play out.

the repeat button works fine as it is only seen in the now playing view anyway. But the shuffle button stays greyed out within the album view and the playlist view. Which is annoying because you can’t select shuffle and then hit play before you start playing an album or playlist and randomly generate a shuffled queue.

My shuffle seems to play a specific list of songs in the exact same order every time, Meaning it's on longer random. It's driving me crazy. I'm thinking of ditching Spotify and switching to amazon music instead. Please fix this menacing problem, or I'm out.

The shuffle button doesn't work. I have an Android phone(Infinix Note 40) and when I look up for a song and play it, it stops even with shuffle being on. My internet is not the problem and the other solutions you gave me don't work either. I hope you REALLY look into this.

Spotify's shuffle option is very repetitive. I've been a premium user since the beginning and have playlists with over 7,000 songs. Every day on shuffle (even on my smartphone), the same songs play. The annoying thing is that, to improve randomness, I have to use the app on three different devices (two phones and one PC). It's awful having to clear the cache and reinstall almost daily. Isn't it possible to create a truly random shuffle option?

I have also noticed that the shuffle button doesn’t work on newer accounts once they become premium. Also a feature that newer accounts are missing is the New Music Friday header and ring glow. Only older accounts seem to have this feature. Such inconsistency for feature rollouts. Everyone’s account does something different. The updates tab is present for some and not for others as well. But the shuffle button being broken isn’t a rollout issue, that needs to be fixed.

Same problem on Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045.

Resolved after application restart, however reproducable after a period of time running the app.
