Smart Shuffle keeps turning itself on

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Smart Shuffle is automatically turning itself on again after being switched off. This is now being looked into.

Note: The Smart Shuffle feature works on a playlist-by-playlist basis. If you turn it off on one playlist, it doesn't mean that it is turned off for all playlists.

Hey folks,

Just a heads-up that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps from the app settings!

1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
2. Tap Settings and privacy.
3. Select Playback.
4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

As for this Ongoing Issue thread, our tech folks are doing their best to figure out the root cause of the issue itself.

I can’t put smart shuffle or shuffle off in my playlists anymore. When I try the app tells me smart shiffle has been disabled and switches back to normal shuffle. But After some seconds smart shuffle

is on again. And no way at all to completely disable shuffle anymore 😞

also the shuffle keeps coming up with same songs! 

Ios 17.5.1 spotify 8.9.60.458 playing currently over Airplay 

EDIT: might be Airplay related in my case, when playing through bluetooth I am able to turn off shuffle.

I'm getting this issue across all software platforms. If my android phone has the app closed and I start my car it begins to play. When I start my computer the app loads and begins to play. Almost randomly in my pocket the app will load and start playing. I have gone to the Windows app and disabled this I have gone into my phone app and disabled this yet the feature does not register.

I'm a premium user and this is frustrating because it's making recommendations based upon Ludacris autoplay results. Sometimes I'll come back to my device and hours of strange and bizarre albums have played.

I know it's not the best but I'm honestly considering dropping you because of this and going back to Google Music. At least they don't have glitches like this and searching in your history this has been going on since 2020? It seems like you just open up a new post and say you're now dealing with it like this one.

I'm considering switching to Deezer or Tidal, not sure which is better. Sadly, Spotify does not care about their customers.

My Question or Issue

I have the bug that's in the name of this thread but it happens differently for me, included video link below.  If you open a playlist on mobile, start playing a song, open it and then tap shuffle, it will swap to smart shuffle.  If you tap shuffle again within 1-2 seconds it will not turn smart shuffle off but will do a small animation as if it were trying to swap.

Trying this again on that same playlist, it will work as normal.  But the moment you move to a new playlist and play, go into the song and tap shuffle then tap smart shuffle (which you have to do to get to normal shuffle), It'll lag and keep smart shuffle on!

It's a bug that only happens in a certain scenario, but for some people this is what they do all the time, going between playlists and choosing shuffle or not shuffle.

My Question or Issue

When I switch from Smart Shuffle to Regular the playlist still shows the recommended songs, and then the shuffle icon reverts to Smart Shuffle. I can't seem to use the Regular Shuffle only after a few minutes of hassle.

Can you please just let us permanently disable smart shuffle; I do not want it and I have no option but to deal with it messing up my playlists when I just want normal shuffle.

This smart playlist is one of the most annoying bugs I ever had on Spotify and I'm a user for quite some years.
It's driving me crazy. 

It keeps turning on on ONE specif playlist all time, it drives me crazy. There is no pattern. I turn it of, click on anything else, then go back to the playlist and there it is. 

That annoying thing should belong on settings, in a way we could even choose to NEVER turn it on. Trust me: when I make my playlists, I want to listen to my playlists and no annoying related suprises. And I hate that thing turning itself on.
