My Question or Issue
So I have a BWM 1 series for about a week now and was able to connect spotify without any problems until it stopped working once i got back in my car two days ago. It still shows up in my apps, and sometimes I can click it and continue to the next screen but it doesn't load any further than that. I also get a notification on my phone that it's connected.
The problem started when I used the spotify app on my computer and connected to Sonos. But I already changed it in the computer app so the music plays from my computer itself.
The funny thing is that it does play spotify from my phone connected via bluetooth, just not from the app that's in the list.
Any idea how I can fix this? Already tried to reinstall the app, open the spotify app through the connected drive app, and disconnect/reconnect my phone.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hey everyone,
If you're having issues with BMW ConnectedDrive, we recommend you reach out to BMW about this.
Make sure your devices are always up to date.
Have a nice day!
@PeterToday Spotify started automatically mulitple times. So it may was a problem of my mobile phone.
What i noticed so far, when spotify continued after you stop the car and get on it again, in the upper right corner Spotify is shown as current media source. When previous the radios or other media source was used, i connect the phone and switch to spotify, the upper right corner is empty.
Hi,
yesterdays test all failed with the following environment:
- Samsung Galaxy S7
- Android 8.0.0 (Security Patch 01. March 2019)
- Spotify 8.5.0.753 (beta?)
- BMW Connected 6.1.0.5272
- Bluetooth AVRCP-Version: AVRCP 1.6 (forgot to add this info on my last post).
The Spotify Icon showed up but I was not able to steer Spotify as the Spotify Menu was empty.
This morning I installed
- Spotify 8.5.1.718 (beta?)
First test was promising:
- Icon was there
- Could enter into the Spotify Menu and steer the App from the car. (stepped through different menu-options etc.
Then about 10 min later all of a sudden I lost the connection again:
- have been throughn out of the Spotify Menu
- Spotify Icon disappeared.
however, the Bluetooth connection still worked.
After a while (I rebooted the the mobile phone in the meantime)
the Icon showed up again but I didn't manage to get a non-empty Spotify Menu to steer the app again.
To be honest, it's a little bit frustrating as I can't see any systematic in the error beahaviour.
Fritz
Same but for CarPlay on IOS

And I'm about 100% sure the bug has never been in Spotify App. So any upcomming Spotify version won't fix it either. Yes, some change in Spotify API triggered it, but as we know the new vrsion of BMW Connectd App fixed it partly. And I believe the remaining bugs (wheel controls and HUD etc.) requires an update to cars entertainmet software before it is going to work. Hopefully BMW is a bit faster with those than this four months we were totally without working Spotify.
I am also 100% sure that the bug is in BMW because of the way the connection behaves. On my car, when spotify stops working, the "apps" option is unchecked, meaning that the problem is within the connection, not within the app. We all use different phones (Samsung, Huawei) and have pretty much the same problem!
Reading all this posts my only conclusion is that bmw interface is horseshite. Android phones work poorly with Spotify. Theres no podcast apps that can be run from the car. You are basically forced to use an apple device to have a decent interface. Let me say that my the interface found on other cheaper cars is WAY better
I brought in my wife's car today and again spoke with my Service Advisor regarding this ongoing issue and he had some new info, nothing earth shattering but at least I think I better unstand things.
Essentially he was told by a BMW area representative that the issue rests with the BMW ConnectedDrive App for Android and the Spotify App for Android, not the iStep software in the physical car.
He updated the iStep software in my wife's car for other reasons and it did make the in-car use of Spotify slighty faster (could be placebo) but the loading when using steering wheel scroll wheel was still present.
He said that saying to have patience is annoying especially because we are paying a lot of money for these vehicles but that is all he could do. BMW is aware of the issue (he said the fact that the area rep was aware of it meants that complaints from Spotify Android owners have gotten through as in most cases the BMW area rep do not know about most smaller issues) and will eventually fix it, but it may take a while.
He further explained that the app is maintained in Germany with input from the various country entities such as BMWUSA for the USA market and so forth and so on. So the work is being done in Germany and will eventually passed on to each market and then updated in Google Play.
I’m having an issue with the Spotify logo on my 2016 BMW 2 series. The Spotify logo only shows half of it. Also the Menu tab wont open (indicates loading) unless I first o-en the search tab. I use iPhone XS Max iOS 12.2 with the latest software of Spotify, connected app as well as the latest I-level for my car.
Last 2 days my spotify keeps stopping intermittently whilst driving. Will stop for up to 20 seconds, skip part of the song or rewind back. Very strange to all of a sudden do this. I have the latest version of android on Samsung S9 and latest spotify updated 3 days ago. I have a 13 plate BMW 1 series I've never had an issue with before this.
I am trying to post some test results, but it appears that the forum is flagging and asking me to remove any commentary that suggests something bad about Spotify? So I guess I will cancel my subscription instead
Having same issue with my 2019 Mini Cooper. Tracked the issue starting with this version: 8.4.79.630. This update seems to have broken the ability to use the Spotify app within the head unit. This originally worked when i took delivery Sept 2018. I have a 2019 F57.
Since 8th April 2019 I have been unable to use either the steering wheel controls or the idrive wheel on my BMW (running idrive 6) to control the spotify app. I am aware of the long standing issues with Spotify/BMW (which drastically needs solving). My new issue comes when trying to skip or rewind tracks when playing Spotify over Bluetooth, it does not do anything anymore.
Is anyone aware of an issue that could be causing this?
Idrive wheel is working for me but controls from the steering wheel are not working at all, famous "loading" message and nothing else, COME ON!! Spotify, please SOLVE the issue!! (iDrive 6, Android 9, latest versions of connected drive and Spotify apps).

Same on my 2015 3 series.
After the latest update my carplay is working again 🙂 2019 MINI, can’t say the same for all.
After multiple updates via the BETA channel, the scroll wheel on the steerting wheel still does not work with the message loading on the instrument cluser or the the HUD.
However, it does seem that the launching of Spotify seems more consistant, still slow, but more consistant in that it launches at all.
Every morning I wake up. Get into my BMW. Turn on my Spotify. Spin my scroll wheel. Secretly wishing the day when "Loading" screen will be gone. 🙂
