Cannot play any song in web player

No matter what browser, I cannot play any songs anymore. I always get:

403 Forbidden: 

{
  "error_type": "NOT_CONTROLLABLE",
  "message": "Device is not controllable"
}

I tried logging out and in again, deleting everything locally from spotify (localstorage, sessionstorage, cookies, cache)

Nothing helped. I get that on both chrome and firefox. Without any addons or extensions. 

Doesnt work on either my notebook (Linux) or my PC on Windows or on Linux again.

I have the same probelm on Chrome on Manjaro Linux

I fixed it by installing the Desktop app, having it and the webplayer open at the same time. In the desktop app I selected the browser as play medium. After that it worked in the browser aswell again.

I then uninstalled the Desktop app.

not sure if that was the issue. I didn't do anything and it just started working for me 2 days or so later... weird

To simplify this solution, open up the web player on your phone, then on the webplayer that wasn't working, open up devices and select the one you want. 

That cleared the error out for me without having to install anything.
