Can somebody tell me why I can't get the album the chronic by Dr.dre?

I'm sure Dre is only offering The Chronic through the Beats music service now.

The rights to that album belong to Death Row Records.  When Dre left, he left everything including his stake in the company and his master's. So unless Suge Knight decides to make a deal, you won't be streaming The Chronic anywhere.

I ripped The Chronic from a CD onto my computer and then tried to upload to the files to spotify but I am getting the "This song is not available. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." error. I get that spotify doesn't have the license to stream the album, but does mean that I can't upload and play my own mp3s if they aren't in Spotify's catalog? That seems like an incredibly useless feature to only allow users to import tracks that are already in Spotify's catalog.
