Is lossless Spotify fixed bitrate?

My Question or Issue

For those of you who have access to lossless Spotify and have a means of identifying the bitrate of the tracks being played, what values are you seeing?

I ask because some users of WiiM devices are seeing a constant bitrate of 700kbps which doesn’t sit well with me as it could imply different FLAC compression ratios are being used for different tracks to hit this arbitrary bitrate/file size - for example, I wouldn’t expect a quieter piano track to losslessly compress to the same size/bitrate as a very dynamic rock track. A WiiM contact says “I checked with the team and they confirmed that Lossless Spotify streams, even if they are 24-bit/44.1kHz, will be 700kbps. What you're seeing from the WiiM screen is accurate, and not a locked default metric”.

Is this intentional on Spotify’s part, or is it a bug with Spotify or WiiM? Thx

We've checked internally and can confirm that Spotify's lossless bitrate is not fixed and should vary depending on the track. If your WiiM device always shows 700kbps, please contact WiiM support for clarification, as this is likely a device-specific reporting issue and not a limitation from Spotify.
