Low Volume on Chromecast

Low Volume on Chromecast

My Question or Issue

Noticed today that volume when casting to Chromecast is significantly lower than normal. I've reinstalled the Spotify app and did a factory reset on the Chromecast itself, but that didn't resolve the problem.  Volume is like normal on all other apps I can cast with and there doesn't seem to be a problem with my system.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Same issue here for a few weeks now. Reinstalled Spotify per provided instructions, but that didn't solve it. Other sources are fine on my Chromecast, it's just Spotify.

Please let me know if there's any way I can help debugging this issue.

Experiencing the same issue as well on my S9+ with greatly reduced volume when Chromecasting. App and Chromecast all have the latest update and volume is at max. First noticed it around the update that released the new party mode.

Sadly, its been weeks and no clear sign of any improvement from both Spotify and Google Chormecast...

i’ll post an update if ever Google decides to answer back...

I just stopped my spotify premium subscription because I can not listen to music with such a low volume.
So, I just subscribed to Qobuz. Perfect sound quality and no problem with my Chromecast audio ...

Here is a copy of my email to Google, somehow I think Spotify is not the problem...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had to do some researching if the problem is the Spotify App of Google Chromecast Ultra, So, using the same procedure that I did on the video clip that I sent you, the low volume exists when casting Spotify App to the Chromecast, but via using Airplay or the Yamaha Spotify Connect, volume level is perfect...To isolate it, I installed another Music streaming app, YouTube Music, and I did the same scenario, casting it then comparing it with the volume level of Airplay, and the results are the same, meaning the problem exists on the Google Chromecast Ultra's capability to stream properly.Coz even with the YouTube Music App, which as far as I know, is a part of Google, has that low volume problem. This has been going on for weeks now, and it is frustrating to see that no one in your team has even reached out to us,nor we receive any update whatsoever. We did everything in our end, like what you said before, to keep the Chromecast updated,or include it in the so-called Beta program of Google, but after that conversation, we did not receive any follow ups from you.

Sincerely,Benedict

Hey folks,

Thanks for continuing to provide info on this.

First, could you make sure to try the steps described in this Google support article?

If that doesn't work, we want to make absolutely sure that this is not an issue with Chromecast

With this in mind, could you confirm for us that you only experience this issue when using Spotify?

If so, let us know which alternative media app you've tried and we'll take a closer look.

Also make sure to include the following details in your reply, even if you have already:

  • Spotify version
  • Device + OS version
  • Is this happening when controlling the volume of the Chromecast from the Google Home app?

Thanks! Keep us posted 🙂

Also happening here after some of the latest updates... The Chromecast Audio volume is set to 100% inside the Spotify app, Google Home 'card', etc. With Google PLay Music, for example, the volume is much higher (in a comparison I did at some point with previous versions the volume was the same with the two apps).

REgards.

Just to make an update on everyone.

it is not Spotify, the main problem lies with the ability of Google Chromecast to transcode anything that is being streamed at her. But somehow, Google would not acknowledge that, they kept telling me that it is the receivers problem (Yamaha), however, I told them that we tested it out with a different receiver, A Sony and a Marantz, which showed the same problem. Volume was way too low when casting. I found out that it is not Spotify, coz we tested out 2 streaming apps as well, Youtube Music and Amazon Music, which showed the same problem as well, when casting it to the Chromecast Ultra, volume was full in the iPhone yet it was still too low on the receiver, but by using Airplay (apple), the music is full and dynamic.

As of now, October 8, 2019

the provlem still persists with Google Chromecast Ultra, and I am not quite sure that Google will be able to fix this, mainly because they wouldn't even acknowledge the problem.

I am quite happy to report to the group though, esp to everyone who owns Apple TV, that Spotify just released their app, and we can now use Apple TV with our Spotify, we can control it with our Apple iPhone or iPad, just pair it first then you are good to go, My Google Chromecast Ultra has become useless and I just might throw it away, or worse if I get **bleep**, send it back via mail to Google with this letter. They are very unprofessional in handling this case, there was a couple of emails from them that really **bleep** me off, people and consumers like us would not complain if we didn't encounter any problem or see any changes in the system, but that's not the case. Yet they keep denying that there is a problem. And somehow I saw how Spotify handles this one, they answer back with all our inquiries about the problem, but I'm quite certain, its not their problem. The only thing I can request Spotify now is to try and coordinate the issue with Google, maybe with a bigger company like them, Google might listen...

sincerely,

Benedict

I don't know with Chromecast Ultra, but with Chromecast Audio the volume is high with Google Play Music and Youtube Music, for example, but very low with Spotify latest versions (and this was not like that before).

I noticed this today also.

Chromecast Ultra and Pixel 3XL. Latest version of Android and Spotify..

Have to turn the amp up to about double what I normally would, the downside of this is I become a little more deaf if I switch from Spotify to YouTube without remebering to turn down the volume first.

It has about the same volume as if I set Chromecast volume to 50% while on YouTube.

I've tried old versions of the Spotify app and all have this problem, so it seems something has recently changed in the Chromecast Audio firmware that Spotify is not handling correctly.

Hey folks,

Thanks for keeping us posted on this.

Since there is not clear evidence that this is an issue with Spotify, we've decided to move this thread back to the help boards.

If you have an issue with your individual device, feel free to create a a new thread in the relevant help board. We'll do our best to troubleshoot your issue.

Thanks! Stay awesome 🙂

Shameful support from Spotify... Chromecast Audio is a must for me, if Spotify 'denies' this is a problem of theirs, next step is clear for me. Stop the Spotify subscription and go with quality services that always have played we'll with Chromecast (Play Music, Deezer... and now even Apple Music).

Yesterday I compared Spotify with Deezer, Play Music and Apple Music from the same Android device, same wifi network and same Chromecast Audio. All play at the same 'loud' volume and good quality except Spotify, which sounds low and muffled. I can't believe anybody in Spotify can't make this test and realize there is a problem with their software.

If this is the kind of lame support we'll get, I'll quit Spotify the moment my monthly subscription expires.

I have the same problem on Chromecast Audio, the volume is very low and weak.
Some fix?

Sorry but there seems to be no answer from Spotify nor from Google, and many users noticed the issue, which somehow make useless Spotify (at least for me, all my audio equipment uses chromecast audio).

Tidal works properly, at lesat by now.

I have posted this before but the post seems to have vanished.

I have the same low volume problem on both my Chromecast devices (Video and Audio). All other apps that stream to Chromecast devices work normally.

I use Spotify on 3 different iPad and iPhone devices, all have the same low volume problem on both Chromecast devices.

It is a shame that Spotify has abandoned the follow-up on this issue, as it seems the problem lies into the Spotify app.

My devices:

One iPad is model MD510C/A, version 10.3.3.

My iPhone is model ME290C/A, version 12.4.1.

Spotify App version is 8.5.27.1156 on all Apple devices.

Other apps on Apple devices that work fine with Chromecast devices : Youtube, Netflix, ICI TOU.TV.

Even Videostream for Google streams correctly to Chromecast Audio from MS Windows.

Strongly thinking about replacing Spotify with somethin else.

i have the same problem (Belgium) on chromecast with spotify

the sound level is low, i must increase + 10db to have a normal sound levelSPOOTIFY CHROMECAST LOW SOUND LEVEL.jpg

"Because we won't bother fixing this, we'll just direct repsonsiblity somewhere else."

Guys, there are plenty of people out there with a Chromecast connected to a A/V receiver. You don't want to be the guys creating anxious music fans that will be thinking their amps are dying (like what happened to me).

I think I've manage to prove this is a Spotify APP bug.
I also have a Google Home Mini. If I cast from it ('hey google, play xxxx in Chromecast Audio') the volume is high! Then I even can open Spotify in the cell, connect to that cast and change songs, etc. and the volume stays high. The problem is in the moment I disconnect the home mini from the Chromecast and connect through the Spotify app, volume is always low.
We have to demand this to be solved, IT IS a Spotify bug.
