No continuous play on Ecobee thermostat

No continuous play on Ecobee thermostat

I have played Spotify through my ecobee thermostat speakers for years. Recently, I have a problem where 1 (sometimes 2) songs will play and then the music stops. Spotify won’t continuously play and start the next song. It moves to the next song and shows on my phone which song would be next, but it shows as paused. I have to tap “play” to make the music keep playing.

This happens if I initiate via a voice command to the ecobee (“Alexa, play ABC on Spotify”) or if I start playing a song on the iPhone app and then switch the speaker to the ecobee.

This issue is present on all my ecobee thermostats, so it’s just a single thermostat issue.

The issue is only on ecobee thermostats. I don’t have the problem when playing Spotify on my phone speakers, Apple CarPlay, air pods, or to another Alexa product (echo).

I have tried:

-restarting router

-deleting / reinstalling Spotify on my phone

-removing Spotify skill from my thermostat and re-adding it

Please help!

Hello - following up. From Ecobee escalated support: "This is something on the Spotify integration side. We've escalated and shared the issue with their team, but we don't have access to it on their side."

I have had this problem as well for quite a while. On a whim, I tried something off the wall, and now it’s working. It COULD just be a coincidence, as I haven’t done more experimenting to see if I can get the problem to come back and go away again at will, but, what SEEMED to work for me was to go into the Alexa app on my tablet, go to the devices list, and select the thermostat. From there, I turned on “Follow Up Mode” and everything magically started to work the way I would expect.

As I said, it could just be a coincidence, but it might be worth trying

What worked for me at least temporarily, under Settings in the Apps and devices section, toggle Keep Spotify open on and off in the In the car section. This seems to allow playlists to work continuously without needing to press Play.

I'm fixing to ditch Spotify and go back to my iPod. This is getting ridiculous. Not only have I had this same issue for almost a year, but many others. And all we get is "We have forwarded this to our team" and nothing else. Even shuffle isn't truly shuffling. Its an algorithm that caters to artists that pay Spotify more, leaving out smaller artists. They keep raising prices and lowering quality. I'm so glad I still have my iPod.
