My Question or Issue

On a short journey today the Spotify app in my Tesla kept stopping every few minutes. It said that music was playing on another device. When we arrived the error was still present. I opened the app on my phone to see what "other" device I was supposedly playing music on. This reported music was playing on my Tesla. (I don't have two cars!)

I am having a similar issue with Spotify in my Tesla. It keeps switching to "connecting to another device". It looks like it's connecting to my phone, but it even happens when my phone is powered off. I'll try some of the solutions above....I've already tried a lot of things.

I am having the same issue.  I have dosconnected every app connected to Spotify (except Tesla) and still having this issue.

PLEASE FIX THIS

It’s been 3 months ….. is here a separate post with the spotify technicians’ fix?

Hi there folks,

Our tech team have informed us that a fix for this has been deployed in the latest app version. Please make sure to update it accordingly and test it out, everything should be fixed for you.

If the issues persist, please let us know the models of car and phone affected and the exact Spotify versions used across both of them.

Cheers!

Still having this issue on version 9.0.54.518, unclear which version is "latest" with this fix, but I see an update from the 19th, on a Pixel 9 Pro.

Same problem still persist

Tesla software 2025.20.3, Spotify 9.0.56.591 on Pixel 8

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

@Darcnes - just to make sure we cover all bases, as a new app version was recently released, could you try updating it following the steps here to see if you notice any difference? Shouldn't that do the trick, it would be great if you could let us know the model of your car, as well as the updated app version 🙂

@Grn - kudos for including your software version! Would you mind letting us know the model of your Tesla too?

We'll keep an eye out for your replies!

Hi Maria, I did ensure I was on the latest available update for the Pixel, and checked again before reporting back. I also made sure to include the exact app version, which you should be able verify is or is not the latest. If it's not, then it sounds like you may have failed to make it available to the very phones it's meant to fix the issue for.

I'm in a 2021 Model Y. And again, the app version (as already mentioned) is 9.0.54.518, on a Pixel 9 Pro running Android 15 with May security updates.

It is Model S 2022

I got the same issue. I have Spotify on my Android Pixel 6, on my Garmin Watch Venu 3 and on my Tesla M3 2024 (with the connectivity package). It seems it's the watch that override them all for some reason.

7-2-2025. Never had this issue until today. Had my model 3 since 2022. I've even turned my phone off and still get the error

I have had my model 3 since Dec 2023

26.7.2025 is the current software update on my model 3

I have the Spotify version app of 9.070.731 on my iPhone 14 Pro

I am also receiving Tesla media player when played from the Tesla touchscreen or my phone and it plays 9 sec and on the Tesla says invalid stream

I have restarted touch screen many time and I have logged out and in many times on phone and Tesla nothing works

I sometimes can on my phone on Spotify switch from Tesla media player to “Tesla model 3” and then the Tesla goes from invalid stream to playing on another device but nothing calmed put from phone or Tesla

help!!!  It just stated doing this

Hey, @Hrr107,

Thanks for joining the thread. Sounds like you're having two separate issues:

  • the one from this thread about the playback switching to Bluetooth;
  • the "PlaybackErrorInvalidStream" error message that was reported here.

Since you mentioned you have an iPhone, you can try disabling Bluetooth access for the app to see if that does the trick. You can do so by heading to your iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth > and making sure Spotify is toggled off.

For the playback error message, have you tried using another network? It's also worth resetting your network settings to the factory default.

Could the rest of you folks also let us know if the Bluetooth issue persists for you on the latest Tesla firmware update 2025.26.7? @Darcnes, @Grn, @Mercador, @Jpcreek_usmc

I got issues last week but I have 2025.26.4 right now so I guess I'll have
to see with the future update. Thanks!

I tried that too, we have two Tesla's, and for the first 3 months the integration SUCKED!!!

we were constantly signing in, reconnecting etc. But magically it got sorted.

Now, switching to my profile I get my connection, and my wife gets hers, in both vehicles.

BUT in our 2021 Y: Spotify pauses playback randomly WAY too frequently, annoyingly frequently.

Last night I was driving our 2024 3 and we constantly got "playing on another device" this was distracting and enraging! For the entire 30 minute drive.

At one point I ran into a store and the music started blasting from my phone's speaker!! So embarrassing!! My family was still in the vehicle?!

Spotify really needs to improve this experience because it's so Infuriating in ready to try Google music again, and cancel my family plan.

Me too! This happens on my desktop - today it's been really bad!
both with a Radio mix playing, and with one of my own Playlists with enhanced enabled.
This happens constantly in my Tesla model Y - pausing multiple times DURING songs.
In my Tesla Model 3, this happens with the "Error: Playing on another device.
If I'm in my vehicle what other device am i playing on? Further, due to the way driver profiles work in a Tesla, it knows who's phone is in the vehicle, so just it would make the most sense to stop the playing on the device that's not the vehicle that's currently being driven.
Spotify is so worried they are going to loose the .0000003 cents by having two devices playing the same song on two different devices on a family plan, when in fact, it's not actually playing on another device, that they are happy to lose an entire family account?!
