Hello @gigzalot,
Thanks for reaching out via the Community!
Could you let us know if you noticed when this started happening (was it after something specific such as an update for example)?
If you've not done this already I recommend a clean reinstall as it often helps resolve different performance issues. You can follow the steps here which also include clearing the cache which may be corrupted.
On another note, let us know if this happens with multiple playlists (even smaller ones), across devices (feel free to send us the makes, models and OS-versions) and in the Web Player as well.
Lastly, to get a better understanding, it would be very helpful if you could send us a video of the behavior (make sure no sensitive info is visible). You can either attach it to your next response via the Insert Video option in the post editor or upload it to Google and share the link with us.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Hello, Ivelina.
It's been happening for at least a few months now. Not exactly certain when it started though.
I did a full uninstall and reinstall. This has not resolved the issue.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G. All software is up to date. I haven't tested this on other models or devices.
I just ran a test on another playlist and it did seem to not revert back to the original area that I was looking at before, but it didn't take me all the way back to the beginning, but it seemed to be off by about 10-15 songs. On my primary playlist that I am having the most issue with, sometimes it will fully revert back to the beginning and other times it will only go to what seems like the minimum initial load amount of the playlist and then include below it a list of Recommended Songs as if I've reached the bottom of the playlist. In some instances it will go right back to the place on the list that I was at, but this is only if I do so relatively quickly after queuing up a song. If I wait too long on the tab to queue up a song or view artist/album, etc., the problem will arise. Typically, if I bring up the list of songs I've queued up for review or decide to shift a song in the queue, almost always, upon my return to the list the problem will always happen. Although, on occasion it will take me all the way back to the beginning of the playlist, though in most cases it will only go as far back as, again, what appears to be the initial load amount of songs (about 30-50 songs - I'm not exactly sure of the amount) with some instances showing the Recommended Songs option, but if a few seconds pass, this will disappear and I will then just be at the beginning of the spot where it took me back to.
Finally, it seems as though the fast scroll issue isn't as much of an issue. While I do have to scroll down a few scrolls before it catches, I eventually seem to be able to grab the scroll bar if I am a little firmer with my grip then I had needed to do in the past, but I definitely can't grab it right from the top of the playlist without scrolling down quite a few scrolls.
Sorry for the lack of pics as I'm presently not in an easy capacity to do this. And thanks for the timely response. I look forward to hearing back from you.
PS I forgot to include that if I close my phone and come back, the place where I was at will always go away and it will automatically go to the top of the list or the minimum initial load amount of songs, with the same occasional Recommended Songs option occasionally offered, only to disappear after a few seconds, which seems to be because it's loading more songs below the spot I have been returned to.
Hey there @gigzalot,
Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.
In this case, we'd like to add some insights. Keep in mind that Spotify playlists are limited to 10,000 songs. When your playlists surpass that limit or are near to that mark, performance issues will appear. This is one of the limitations of the app.
We understand taking screenshots or a video of this issue might be difficult, so no worries, you can take any time you need to make and send it to us. Since you mentioned your playlist has over 10,000 tracks, we suggest you divide it into smaller ones and maybe add those to a folder by following these steps. That way you'll keep all the tracks in one place.
Keep us in the loop!
Hello AlejaR,
Thank you for getting back with me.
To no surprise, you mentioning that you consider this issue likely due to my playlist being around the 10k mark doesn't surprise me. Thank you for mentioning the idea of dividing up my playlist into smaller playlists, but I can only assume you do not realize how time consuming this would be. I have already gone about starting up another playlist that already exceeds 29 hours worth of listening. With this being the case, it then forces me to ask, what is preventing the 10k limit from being raised? It's not like this hasn't been an issue among users for years now. I'm going to guess you are likely aware of members complaining about this and many wondering why if they use one of Spotify's competitors, they have no problem with making a playlist exceeding the 10k mark. I'm asking because I have yet to hear any rationale given as to why Spotify won't increase the limit, despite there being multiple pages worth of people requesting it be raised on an on-going basis as notable here; do note, this link is not the original request made that also included multiple pages worth of requests by members that was locked down before this most "recent" request for increasing the 10k limit was made.
I have mentioned within the community that this limit is incredibly annoying for someone like myself who took great pride in becoming a paying member early on because of the idea that I could build up a playlist on such a level to my hearts content. Nobody was ever told in advance that they couldn't make a playlist that exceeded 10k songs. I fail to understand that if this issue is affecting the functionality of my use and likely doing the same to many other members why, as a long dedicated paying customer, the company refuses to remedy an obvious issue that should've been addressed years ago. Maybe, instead of us having to spend our time breaking up our playlist into smaller playlists in order for the app to function, after over fifteen years worth of existence the company could "spend" time increasing the 10k limit instead of the hours it spends on, far more often than not, regularly kicking out, in comparison, pointless UI updates.
I look forward to receiving a response.
Best regards, gigzalot
Hey again @gigzalot and thank you for the response.
We really appreciate you sharing your feedback about the 10k playlist limitation and understand that it could be quite time consuming to divide tracks into different playlists and folders.
As there's other users that would also appreciate an improvement in the Library and as we're looking for ways to improve our users' experience with Spotify, the tech teams are looking into this and trying to find ways to optimize the app for users with large music collections.
We're very happy to hear that you'd like to expand your library even more in order to show your love for music and value you as our user.
Backstage, we've also reported the details that you provided for the scrolling issue you're experiencing so the relevant team can investigate further. Thank you for the cooperation!
In the meantime, the Community's here if there's anything else we can assist you with or if you've got any questions.
