Privacy: Activity on Spotify & Private Session

Privacy: Activity on Spotify & Private Session

Hi All,

I have been thinking about getting Spotify Premium for a long time but I don't like the fact that Spotify leaves no choice with respect to privacy or makes it cumbersome to keep my privacy. That is the reason why I have stuck with Napster eversince. Now I want to start a new attempt and may be switch over to Spotify.

After reading through the community the picture is not quiet clear to me with respect to the two functionalities named in the subject ("Publish my activity on Spotify" and "Private Session"). What I want in general is the following: Without first needing to make sure that some option is checked (like the Private Session) I want that no one is able to see what I am listening to - also not what I listened to three days ago etc. I am ok with publishing some of my play lists, but I want control over what is public and what is not. Is this achievable in general or more specifically with the two named functions?

Would be great if someone could give a status update with respect to this (and hence on the core privacy issues many users seem to have).

Many thanks in advance!

Herri

Hi @Herri! Thanks for writing on the Community.

When you activate the Private Session feature on your app, no one will be able to see what you've listened. The Private Session will end when you restart Spotify or after a long period of inactivity. You can find more info here.

Take care 🙂

Hi JuanSebastian,

thanks for your quick answer! So when I get you right,  basically always have to "ask for privacy" and don't have it by default and there is no way to leave the privacy mode permantently on?

Herri

Sorry Herri, Spotify doesn't respect your privacy so your personal listening is broadcast t o everyone. Spotify makes it internationally difficult to remain private.
