Shuffle in Spotify for Tesla is producing the same “random” order every day

Shuffle in Spotify for Tesla is producing the same “random” order every day

This bug report has nothing to do with playing repeated songs in a Radio. This issue is specific to Tesla cars, and Tesla cars only.

Every day, Spotify for Tesla starts playing the same shuffled sequence of songs in a large playlist. Basically, I’m listening to the same several songs in a playlist of thousands of songs all the time. It doesn’t help to turn off and turn on Shuffle - this works only once, and then the original ‘random’ order restores next day. It doesn’t help to restart or update the car. The ‘random’ order remains the same anyway. Tesla Service is saying ‘works as expected’ on any reported software issues. Please fix this issue. Is there a workaround that we can use until it’s fixed?

Hey @Dmitrу,

Thanks for the links.

Due to security reasons we're unable to open Dropbox links. Could you upload the videos to YouTube or use Google Drive?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Team Spotify, surely you'll see this if you look at our song histories? The same songs will repeat every time in the same order.

At least I hereby authorize you to look at my song history for this purpose. (I stopped using shuffle some days ago because of this problem.)

Reduced the size of the video recordings below 5 MB.

Thanks everyone for your reports and information shared here!

We've passed it all along to our developers who will be looking into this.

I also experiencing the same issue with my Tesla Model Y 2023. The current playlist is liked songs. Force restarting the Tesla doesn't work and I also tried logging out/back in and the issue still persists.

This is definitely a problem that has manifested itself in the past month or so. As for me I have a Model 3P running 2023.20.4.1. It happens on any playlist. I can choose a random song, the player is set to random and after a song or two it will return to a set list of songs. It doesn't matter if I log out and log back in.

@AlejaR I can send you a video of me watching the videos Dmitry posted and saying things like "yeah that is exactly what happens" if that helps you visualize. I am less convinced we will make progress in this forum if you are not even able to review the things you seem to "require" or repeatedly ask for.

I am running 2023.20.4.1  on a ModelY which is the latest available software in my region, I have upgraded through perhaps 5 software versions over the period I have owned the car and the problem has been consistently present.

Regarding troubleshooting I am struggling to understand what you could possibly mean. I have turned it off and then on again. Clearly this is not a PC or phone, there really is nothing to troubleshoot. The behaviour which I would call a bug presents reliably every time I get in my car. My kids play the "guess which song is coming next" game which is our little joke because we all know what is coming next because it returns to the same loop after 1 song every single time.

@Xenia Thank you! Is there ETA for the fix?

Hi all,

The right teams are already working on it and made some changes.

@Dmitrу, if it's not too much trouble, could you try the steps to reproduce the issue again and confirm if it's still happening on your end?

Thanks in advance!

@Xenia Of course, it's reproducible! Why would it not be? Reproduced it after the latest software update. What exactly did you mean?

Thanks for getting back to us so quickly @Dmitrу. Just checking when the last time was you experienced the issue - yesterday, today?

The last time I listened to a playlist where I can recognize the issue was around 6/22/2023. The issue reproduced at that time.

I tried again today, on 6/27/2023, and the issue didn’t reproduce. I haven’t updated Tesla software. This means the issue was likely in Spotify API.

Thank you for working on it so promptly. I think I’ll need to test it for a few more days to be sure that it was actually resolved.

I had the issue today 6/27/2023, so it seems like if it has been fixed, it's not rolling out to all users at the same time. I'm on a 2020 Tesla Model 3 running 2023.7.20 firmware.

Thanks Dmitry I rushed out to sit in the car when I saw your message, and I should add that my testing is far from thorough but miracle of miracles it moved onto a seemingly random next song. Now huge caveat, I have not tested beyond that so could just be a new loop etc but can absolutely confirm that at the very least something has changed (for me as well). Kudos to Spotify team thanks.

Still no joy on my end today. The issue even continues to occur if I turn off shuffle - seems like it "remembers" that I once played the playlist on shuffle, and now continues to do so.

For those of you who are seeing it fixed, did you have to reboot the vehicle first?

Unfortunately, on the second try today the issue reoccurred. The original issue had two variations: 1) in 99%, the same “random” sequence was played; 2) in 1%, the songs were played in the sequential order like when Shuffle is turned off.

While I haven’t been able to reproduce variation 1 so far, variation 2 has reproduced. Instead of playing the same “random” sequence, songs were played in order.

This is how I reproduced the issue:

1. Shuffle songs in a long playlist and play it.

2. Switch to Bluetooth in Tesla.

3. Park in an underground parking with no cellular connectivity.

4. Switch back to Spotify.

5. Wait until the connectivity is restored.

6. I also pressed on the Refresh icon in the center of the Spotify window, though I’m not sure it was a button.

7. Tap on any song to resume the playback. I also tried tapping on the Play button in the playlist.

Results: Shuffle is on but songs are played in order.

@Xenia Please let me know if you need a recording of this issue.
