Spotify on Google Home in South Africa

I recently bought a Google Home overseas and brought it back to South Africa, where it is not supported. I can use Google Play Music with it by setting it as the default player but even though I can connect Spotify to the Home app, I cannot make it the default. The other solutions I have found about changing language do not work here. Any South Africans tried to do this?
