I can't I download music as mp3 files even though I am a Spotify premium user?

You can't download mp3's from Spotify. As a Premium subscriber you can save music for offline listening, but the files are encrypted and they can only be played by Spotify apps. This is because Spotify pays to artists by number of plays and if you export mp3 and play them on some other player, the artist can't receive credit and be payed for his music.
