My Question or Issue
I've been using Spotify on my Xbox Series X for a year now, and it always stutters exactly once for almost a second near the last half a minute of every song. I've tried reinstalling it, but it doesn't change. I'm connected directly to my router through ethernet. Playback is normal on my PCs, phones, and devices besides the Xbox.
Any suggestions on how to remove the stutter on my Xbox?
Hey folks,
Thanks for your replies here and for the info shared.
Would you mind letting us know what troubleshooting steps you've followed so far? If you haven't yet, we'd suggest you try some of the suggestions @prage posted here.
On another note, @Jcolliu, it'd be really helpful if you sent us a video recording of this behavior. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
@Justin777 is this happening no matter what content you choose to play? Does this happen if you change the internet connection you're using? Is this happening over WiFi? Ethernet? Both? If possible, you can create a hotspot on your phone and connect your console to it, to see if you notice any difference. Give it a try and let us know if changing the connection makes any difference.
Keep us in the loop!
Hey folks,
We've forwarded this to the right team. We'll let you know as soon as we have an update.
If you haven't already, please share your exact device model, OS version and Spotify version.
Cheers,
I only ever listen to music. It works fine on my computer and my mobile app. The skip/stutter only occurs on my Xbox Series X. Honestly I believe it did it on my Xbox One before I upgraded as well. So its been doing this for probably well over a year or 2. Just never found any other posts online also having this problem.
Although to be fair I never reported the issue until I found this users post about the issue and thought Id reply within this thread.
My Xbox Series X and Spotify both have the latest updates. No new updates available when checking for updates. Also my console is always hardwired to my wireless router. I guess I could try the Hotspot thing and update with that info.
As added info the skip usually occurs about 15-20 seconds on the dot before the end of a song. But I have also had it occur sooner. For example after I sent you that recording I had it happen in a 4 and a half minute song about 1 min 30 seconds into the song or so. But usually its at the end of songs.
Also the Spotify app on Xbox doesnt really have any adjustable settings like pc and mobile do.
So I tried the Hotspot and surprisingly had no skip/stutter. Let the music play for close to 2 hours. Switched back to hardwired to my wireless router and within about 3 songs it started doing it again.
What does this mean exactly? That theres a problem with either my Internet provider, my Modem (provided by internet provider), my Wireless Router (my store bought $150~), or possibly my ethernet cords themselves? Internet Provider is Spectrum (Charter) if needed.
Cant realistically use my hotspot constantly like that. Just wanted to test it.
Also it runs perfectly on my phone and laptop and those are using the same internet as my Xbox. But they are on the Wi-Fi instead of hardwired.
Checking in to say that this issue is still present and driving me absolutely nuts.
No fix for this yet???
Hi there, I also have the same problem. This choppiness only happens with songs I have not downloaded on the Spotify app on my phone. As soon as I download the song the choppiness disappears, at least for me. Hope this helps.
Hi everyone, I've been watching this for the past year and wanted to confirm that this is still an issue. It was suggested that logging out and back in might fix this issue, it does not. A factory reset, updates, and logging in to different accounts does not fix it. Changing settings in Spotify does not fix it. I called my internet service provider, and they could not fix it, but suggested it might be an Xbox/Microsoft issue. I'll likely be creating a post in the Xbox forum to try to bring this up there.
Here is a link to the Microsoft forum post I have opened up to try to solve this issue.

Me too having this same issue, I'm using a mibox s
Hi I have a buffering problem aswell however when in a game it’s is completely fine but if I open the menu or just being on the Home Screen it buffers like crazy making the song aggravating to listen to because the stutters are that bad it skips words in the music another thing to mention is it has to be a game because if I am sat on the Spotify app itself it still stutters.wondering if this is the same for anyone else and if it can be fixed
I am having the same issue. Every song between 15-30s before song ends it’ll pause. I had never had this issue until I moved my lounge around and switched to wifi. Never had the issue on any other platform (pc, iOS and android) only on Xbox. Have been using Spotify on previous Xbox’s with same setup and no issues in past. Internet connections are definitely not the issue. No signing out, deleting app etc DOES NOT FIX IT.
I recently ran into this issue and came across this old thread with not much in the way of solutions. Interestingly I've been using Spotify on my Xbox Series S since I bought it a couple years ago and the problem has only surfaced now, no idea why. The only solution shown here was hotspotting from your phone which seems to prove that it's some kind of connection issue. On a whim I decided to switch from my router's 2.4ghz channel to the 5.0ghz channel (I usually default to 2.4 because it has better signal strength). Lo and behold it worked. No more stuttering. Hopefully this works for other people too.
As an aside: I also have a PS5 and tried using it when I was initially looking for solutions. It has the same issue although nowhere near as bad as on the Xbox. Just a tiny hitch rather than a half/full second of silence.
