Discover Weekly - General Observations

Hi All ~

Not a rant or complaint, but I've been really disappointed with the quality of the 30 songs on the Discovery Weeekly module. The last three or four weeks have been pretty horrible with me Unliking at least 10 songs weekly.

And I'm a little confused with the algorithm Spotify is using in determining your music preferences. Looking through my saved Followed Artists listing, about 80% are women, but in the DW module, it's more like 80% are male artists. It's disappointing as I'm not really discovering new artists that I'd like to explore in greater  detail. Feels a bit like a musical desert.

Also, I see that the DJ module is still shown as "Beta." That's hilarious as it's been out for YEARS now!

Thanks for your feedback @januaria81! I will say that in my own experience with Discover Weekly, the biggest influence tends to be what I've been listening to most recently, but it takes some time for changes to my listening habits to be reflected (sometimes a few weeks or so). I definitely think your overall listening history, likes, etc. do play a role too, but (again, just from my personal experience) it seems like recent listening has the biggest effect in the short term.

Hi All ~

I need to give credit where credit is due: this past week's Discover Weekly selections were EXCELLENT! Of the 30 songs, I only zapped ONE, the rest were either decent or good to very good. So, bravo, Spotify! Who knows what tomorrow's DW will bring, but I'm happy just to have what came through this week.

Hi Dinomight!

 Maybe the Spotify's algorithm is broken for me. I say that because the past few weeks DW (except for this past week's which was EXCELLENT), were terrible and bore no resemblance to my listening habits.
