Lately I’ve been thinking of all those who have lost friends or family members in recent months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I imagine that it must be a difficult time for them when they are in quarantine, alone with their thoughts and forced to process their grief in solitude without being able to say goodbye at a funeral or memorial. I remember that when I lost my childhood friend when I was a kid, it was a difficult time for me; and I imagine that isolation only amplifies those feelings of helplessness and anxiety.

Today I was listening to this song by Haunt, which is about “lighting the beacon of remembrance” for those who have passed away. I think that it does a good job of translating my feelings of compassion for those who have lost loved ones due to the pandemic, as I hope that they can help cope with their grief by “honoring every single story” and sharing memories of the deceased with their friends and family.
