I'm a paying customer - paying for listening to the music I LIKE, not to listen your political agenda. Why I should listen to such titles as "Richard Pryor - Niggers vs. The Police" or "N.W.A - **bleep** Tha Police". This is on your "Black Live Matter" playlist!.
If this playlist won't be removed from my home-screen I'm cancelling my subscription!
The service is generally good and I know the company has good intentions, however, imposing channels/playlists that are not congruent with values or politics - without the ability to filter or dismiss - is a bad model and divisive. The company may have its social values and culture, but that should mostly be transparent when delivering a music streaming service. I don't even know what a "Black Lives Matter" playlist is supposed to represent - black artists, anti-cop rhetoric, revolutionary attitudes, etc or "LGBT": gay artists, anti-cis attitudes, etc. You have to consider how a playlist with another word placed in it would resonate - Like "Cops Lives Matter" or "Heterosexuals". If the category sparks a visceral response, because of how focused it is on a social or political value, then you should just leave it off or allow it to be filtered.
Music is a personal experience and as paying customers, people should not have virtue signaling shoved in their faces, especially when they are in a depressed mood - chiefly due to all of the other virtue signaling and less than ideal things happening out there.
If you truly embrace the value of supporting all who subscribe to your service, equally, and actually respect the customers you have, who are not violating Spotify ToS, then give us the ability to see what we want to see from the service we are paying to use. I honestly don't want to leave your service and I am sure it wont even register as a blip, but consider just being a service that is free of, or, can be configured to be free of political or heavy social leanings.
Me too ....l am ticked off!! So angry that I cancelled this AM. When I log on to my account each AM, I am on for my peaceful music. Now I am greeted with the violent looking fist....I am not paying to feel threatened every morning.
I immediately unsubscribed. I have high moral standards, and Spotify's support of a threatening, violent and seemingly racist group violates these standards.
A better alternative than MP3s is free music. Soundforge has the same problems as Spotify and cannot be used. Arguably, large parts of the commercialized music business is corrupt as well.
I suggest you give Jamendo a try. All the music there is free and of high quality, so I don't spend time OCD'ing my way around all the garbage. Press play on any artist, and it's good, benevolent music no matter the genre.
The exact opposite of the vicious playlist Spotify shoved into my face.
Friendly reminder that the forums are just for discussion so this won't gain traction. If you want to bring this technical fault under Spotify's attention, check out this suggestion thread instead:
Steps I've taken so far and recommend:
Hi @Spotify, as far as I know, I PAY for my premium subscription each month to listen to the music of my choosing. Please don't shove your political agenda down my throat. #myspotifymychoice #backoffwithpolitics
It's bad enough that we have to listen to all**bleep** about "cops being shot" and other **bleep** Rap songs. It's not my taste and has never been. Keeps the New Music Friday a liitle cleaner if possible. Over 65% of the songs are Black Rap songs that reference Killing or disrepecting somebody. It goes both way.
Yep. Going with option #3. Goodbye Spotify.
Still not missing it. Will see how the free version works once my subscription period has worn off, but one thing is certain: I will not get premium again. They're going to spam me with their advertising anyway, so what's the real benefit?
How can I remove the Black Music Matters?
All lives should matter, in fact. This is racist against non-black people.
I tried to make a support case.
According to support: (translated to English)
"Spotify uses its platform to strengthen the Black voice and to highlight the fight against racism, injustice and inequality. I can't say anything more than this, if you have any other questions feel free to let me know."
On which I replied:
"It would adorn you to want to fight injustice and inequality for all people, not just a big mouthed group. Can I file a complaint"
On which support replied:
"We don't have that. The community is used when customers want to communicate something."
Coffee is great, isn't it?
Same here, if Spotify doesn't take a stand against violence and terrorism i"m out🖐️
Listen to Motörhead, Brotherhood of man, its so true about everything right now😪
I had spoken via chat to a Spotify just service rep and was told there was nothing I could do about this issue. They didn't care and were pretty arrogant in their tone. I have since canceled my subscription, deleted the app and passed on Spotify's indifference to their customer's legitimate concerns to everyone I had previously recommended Spotify to. I went back to Apple Music and have been pleasantly surprised at how much better it had become. I recommend others do the same. Apple is actually offering 3 months free trial! Adios spotify.
